Google Calendar Sync?

Hi, I picked up a Droid 2 and its my first android phone. After doing a bit of research, I read that the Calendar app should sync with Google Calendar automatically. However, when I first open the Calendar app it says "There are no calendar events currently synced. You can set up a calendar to sync in Accounts"
When I go to Accounts (under Settings or My Accounts, they are the same) I see my google account/gmail account. When I open that, I see "Sync Contacts" and "Sync Gmail". There is no mention of Google Calendar anywhere.
When I try to add an event to the Calendar app, it says: "You must synchronize a calendar before adding a new event"
When I hit the menu button in the Calendar app and hit "Calendars", the list is completely blank, with only "OK" and "Cancel" buttons at the bottom.
Sooo basically, my question is how do I get my Google Calendars to sync?
Much love to anyone who can help me out

have you tried messing with the calender settings from a computer? I don't know if there is anything in there that would help but it's possible.

Can you remove that account and re-add it?
I looked, and I have the option to sync contacts, gmail, and calendar.

I had the same problem and here's how I fixed it. Follow the directions and set up another google account(you can delete it later). After you do this and rebot your system you should then find your calendar. Then you can delete your second google account. Also, you can go to google calendar online and also find your calendar.

I had the exact same problem. Brand new Droid2 and walked through all the prompts, etc. to do the initial setup. After adding the gmail account, I only had "Sync Contacts" and "Sync Gmail". The "Sync Calendar" option simply did not exist in the list.
Reading on other forums on the internet, it seems this is not an uncommon problem. One mention to fix was to do a 'factory reset', which I didn't feel like doing as I was afraid it would wipe out 3 days of work and downloads and all the various setups, etc. done.
So I wanted to reply and thank redfoxy for the steps mentioned to recover from this as I did not have to do a factory reset. I created an additional google account and then powered off and powered on the phone. However, 'Sync Calendar' still was not listed for either google account. I was rather frustrated by this and deleted the new account from my phone in disgust. However, when I checked back about 10 or 15 minutes later, magically 'Sync Calendar' was now in the list. So it seems redfoxy's procedure worked and I just needed more patience. (Although it would be much less frustrating and much more functional if things worked as expected and you didn't have to jump through hoops like this.)

I also had this same issue but the only difference that I had read in multiple forums was to create a new gmail account from your Droid. After I did this I didn't need to reboot my phone I just went back into my other gmail account on my droid and selected sync calendar.

I am having the exact same problem. I also have had mine for about a week. It keeps telling me to sync my calendar but there isn't an option for that that I can find so yes, please help us! AND, when I power up my phone from being completely off, even though I have it on silent mode, it still make s a noise when it is turn on. I dont mind it too much but there are times when I want it quiet when I turn it on like first thing in the morning. I dont want to have to go all the way downstairs just to turn my phone on so I don't wake everyone up.

Try turning-off/unchecking Menu > Settings > Sound> Screen lock sounds.
