nobody knows. the speculation is august for the 2.2 (froyo) release. i haven't heard about the update that is specific to the htc incredible, but i hope it is soon since it is supposed to fix and improve so many things. and i've also heard that verizon is concentrating more on a different technology (forgot what it's called???) that will be better than 4g but will not be ready until next year.

Thank you! I'm too poor to buy a new one every time one becomes available. I knew better than to buy my Motorola Droid, so many problems, I'm sick of  it!

The new technology is LTE  (Long Term Evolution)

Someone officially unofficial tweeted that Froyo expected release for Incredible is end of July/beginning of August.

Verizon will utilize LTE for enhanced data network and will not roll out until 2012 at the earliest.

LTE is rolling out later this year.  There is speculation that it is rolling out in coming months.  That will be to select markets covering roughly 100,000,000 people.  By 2012 they expect to have doubled the number covered and by 2013 they expect to be covering the entire 3G network with LTE coverage.    As to devices no time frames are given.  They already have the first modems pegged.  The modems according to an official verizon spokesperson will be the first devices available.  After that Smartphones will become available.  There may be some LTE phones before 2012 but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.  Others have done it but in the early phase of select cities mode Few people would benefit from it and those who travel would be out of luck.  I would expect the early LTE phones to be fairly expensive as they will have to cover LTE, EVDO Rev4, 1X, and voice inorder to be useable on the network in the early phases.  Once LTE is available nationwide it is said to be comparable to average broadband.  If data remains at the current pricing or a similar version tiered then it would be comparable to pricing of wired broadband as well.  I doubt it will be as cheap as what we have and it is confirmed that they will be going to a tiered pricing plan for data.  There isn't expected to be any unlimited data.

OTA updates will come as they are finished by the manufacturer with the obsurd adjustments they make and then are approved by Verizon.  It takes a minute to do that and recently HTC announced that it is complex to reprogram all the pieces of Sense to utilize all of a new OS version.  Expect to see each manufacturer updating their most popular new  phones first.
