HTC INCREDIBLE RECEPTION PROBLEM?

My first Verizon phone, I switched because of the network's reputation, but the phone's reception does not seem up to par. There are similar reports popping up(phandroid.com), though some say just the signal strength icon is the problem. Others agree the reception is the problem.

What is the policy about totally canceling service early on?

I do know you have about 30 days to return the phone with a $35 retocking fee....so the best bet is to go to a verizon store...however here in S California where my At&t would drop calls in the middle of conversations, not make a call and or just drop the signal all together..the incredible has not and holds the calls where I could not before, one of the problem places, my apartment complex, for some reason and the verizon service has been better for me...I never pay attention to the bars as long as the phone rings and makes calls I am happy...Also as a side note most people on the other end have said they could hear me better, asking me first if I got a new phone. My Parrot BT car device also is MUCH louder with this then my old and true HTC Tilt...have no idea why that changed.

You can check your real signal strength by going to Settings > About phone > Network.

Anything below -100 or so is usable, -80 or so is good, -60 or below is awesome.

The issue, at least with my particular Incredible, is with the displayed bars, not the real signal strength or the phone's ability to hold a call/etc.

Thanks for the usable signal strengths. I have always been in a marginal signal area, where with my old TP, I would lose calls and have to send texts many times to get them through.

Where I ambased on the weather widget I hit 4 different towers around me. But My signal is -96 to -90 and have not lost a call or had to resend a text.

I have a storm2 and a htc incredible. Side by side, the storm2 always has at least 1 - 2 extra signal strength bars, sometimes more... have not had a chance to really test to see if it's accurate though.

This was my experience at the store yesterday. The rep standing there with me had 3-4 bars I had 1 and no 3 g service.

My phone was dropping calls to *228 while trying to update my roaming. My signal strength is jumping Betwwen -95 to -107, i almost miss my storm just a little bit now. I have never had any trouble with signal on any phone i have owned before in my area till this one which means cheap radio inside or huge software bug

I just got mine yesterday and switched from my Droid. The first thing I noticed was poorer reception than my Droid in the same place. My signal strength in this room isn't any better than -90 and goes down to -99 when I move my hand to the bottom of the phone. On couple of calls yesterday, the breakup was so bad, people couldn't understand a word I said nor could I understand what they said.

While I like the phone, unless there's a quick fix for this reception problem, I will return it. Sorry. Its a phone first.

I just created a signal monitor app the runs in the notification area. It build from the Android OS signal triggers and I've noticed it's more accurate and updates/changes alot quicker then the HTC signal meter....

It's set it up using a 5bar system and users can manually set the dbm ranges if you think they're off... most vendors have there own "ranges".

Anyhow... I think this might prove its not a bad chip, but perhaps how HTC's displays the stock signal bar..

The issue for me seems to have gone away for the most part..only a few times a day where it drops to 1 bar or none.

Here is a picture of my "Real Signal" app with my phone right next to my Verizon Extender. Sometimes the HTC signal display would jump up, but it would go back down right after.

I live in mid North Carolina and have bad reception with my htc incredible, as far as rebooting it has not been an issue maybe once or twice. I am getting close to the 30 day mark and am about to send my phone back because of my reception. I just got off the phone with an verizon rep. and he told me that he didn't know of this problem, and that SOME PHONES DON"T PICK UP AS WELL AS OTHERS, ok I told him I had a razor phone from all most three years ago which had a lot better reception... Keep in mind over all this is a great phone but I guess I'm confused about what is happening here, I think I'm thinking that when they come out with a new phone that signal strength would have been top on the list.... I am not in any way going to ATT or sprint or were ever, just not sure if I should go ahead and take the chance with the phone or not?????? I have been to the htc forums and the android forums and someone mentioned that they might not be able to fix this.... ANY SUGGESTIONS

I am now on my second incredible 2 telephone. This was a replacement from Asurion for my original incredible. This phone has terrible reception problems. I have never had problems in the area where I live, Southeast Georgia. Now I am dropping calls and have to run outside every time I want to have a conversation on the telephone. Please Verizon. Help us!

Verizon should come out of the closet and address the signal problems with the Incredible 2. Treat your customers good and address issues in a timely manner. We pay the bill on time. Help us out.

We are aware of the signal issue with certain HTC Incredible 2 devices, and are working diligently with the manufacturer to provide a solution.

So is there an update to this? My Incredible 2 has horrible reception at my house compared to the LG Vortex I use tio have.. Making me wish I had stuck with the LG..

Anyone seen anything new on this?

Found a way to work around the problem! After sending my first Incredible 2 back and finding the replacement had the same problem, I activated my old LG5500 to use in my home in upstate NY. The HTC works fine where the signal is strong here in SW Florida

It sucks you spent 400 bucks (Potentially) for the inc2 just to re-activate an older phone.. IMO one should not have to do that even if in a different region. If the Dinc2 did not have the current reception problem, you would likely be able to use the Dinc 2 in both locations.

Many folks have done side by side comparisions showing the Dinc2 has a significantly weaker signal over all. That is the problem I want resolved.

My LG Vortex had much better reception at my house but the Dinc2 drops calls quite abit where before with the LG I had no dropped calls.

Don't know why Verizon cannot reply to this thread and give is a status. It is friggin frustrating and sad..

Soupcannon, if you read the previous comments including the one before mine, which is what I was responding to, the user has an Incredible 2.

We do not have a date for Gingerbread on the Incredible.

Pretty sure any Incredible 1 reception fix would apply to the Incredible 2.. I mean I don't believe they are that different and a fix would apply to both models..

I am glad I am not alone with these problems.

I've tried contacting HTC and they keep telling me to contact Verizon and do a replacement. We tried that once and still the problems exist.

It is sad when you are locked into a contract for two years and one is stuck with a device with known problems and you are out of luck and basically have to live with the problems or pay full price for a new phone.

I think this is an HTC hardware issue. I have had three different HTC Android Phones now: Dinc 1, Dinc 2, and Rezound. All have the same reception issues. Luckily I get to play phone tester for a company :smileyhappy:

I'll be trying the Galaxy Nexus when it comes out... Hopefully that will solve my woes. I've had the Dinc 1 since release (my personal phone) and have long since given up on these issues. I can pretty much bet that Dinc 1 issues will not be resolved, and Dinc 2 issues will probably be parking lotted until they are forgotten as it is still a 3G device.

Meh, my two cents. Nothing against Verizon though, am stoked about the Nexus!
