HTC INCREDIBLE RECEPTION PROBLEM?

My first Verizon phone, I switched because of the network's reputation, but the phone's reception does not seem up to par. There are similar reports popping up(phandroid.com), though some say just the signal strength icon is the problem. Others agree the reception is the problem.

What is the policy about totally canceling service early on?

I do know you have about 30 days to return the phone with a $35 retocking fee....so the best bet is to go to a verizon store...however here in S California where my At&t would drop calls in the middle of conversations, not make a call and or just drop the signal all together..the incredible has not and holds the calls where I could not before, one of the problem places, my apartment complex, for some reason and the verizon service has been better for me...I never pay attention to the bars as long as the phone rings and makes calls I am happy...Also as a side note most people on the other end have said they could hear me better, asking me first if I got a new phone. My Parrot BT car device also is MUCH louder with this then my old and true HTC Tilt...have no idea why that changed.

You can check your real signal strength by going to Settings > About phone > Network.

Anything below -100 or so is usable, -80 or so is good, -60 or below is awesome.

The issue, at least with my particular Incredible, is with the displayed bars, not the real signal strength or the phone's ability to hold a call/etc.

Thanks for the usable signal strengths. I have always been in a marginal signal area, where with my old TP, I would lose calls and have to send texts many times to get them through.

Where I ambased on the weather widget I hit 4 different towers around me. But My signal is -96 to -90 and have not lost a call or had to resend a text.

I have a storm2 and a htc incredible.   Side by side, the storm2 always has at least 1 - 2 extra signal strength bars, sometimes more... have not had a chance to really test to see if it's accurate though.

This was my experience at the store yesterday.  The rep standing there with me had 3-4 bars I had 1 and no 3 g service.

My phone was dropping calls to *228 while trying to update my roaming.  My signal strength is jumping Betwwen -95 to -107, i almost miss my storm just a little bit now. I have never had any trouble with signal on any phone i have owned before in my area till this one which means cheap radio inside or huge software bug

-107 is way too low to be a usable signal. Try moving your hands away from the bottom of the phone (that's where the antenna is) -- or you may have gotten a lemon if other phones in the same location work.

Yeah, I've noticed my reception appearance is poor.  I haven't had any call quality/dropping issues, and my internet has been as fast as I could expect it to be.  Just did my first connection test, and in my bedroom I'm hovering at -75 to -85.

I haven't been able to get 3G reception anywhere that I've been in the last two days I've had it. I've been in Santa Clarita Valley, northeast Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley in the southern CA area.

Went to my local store and asked if they knew anything to help settings wise with my phone network and the employee said i have no signal problem . Which of course who would have a signal problem in the freaking store that has a repeater on top of it. Employee dismissed me and said that any signal that my phone can get is usable. He wouldn't walk outside the store with my phone and see the joy of -100 to -  107 range (and i made sure last time i checked that my hand held phone be side and not bottom). According to the battery usage  18% of my battery charge i had no signal at all.     I love the phone and have gone as far as update my towers everyday just in case  but it has stayed the same.

I also am having reception problems. At home, I am getting between -90's to -100's, 1-2 bars. But the worst is at work where I usually get -100's, 0-1 bars, and often miss calls because I have no coverage and I work near downtown St. Louis in a single story building. I have called Verizon to open a service ticket. I just switched over from AT&T on 05/01 so I still have the 30 day return and will wait a few weeks to see if an update comes out soon or it gets returned and I go back to AT&T which always had 5 out of 5 bars.

I'm also having reception issues at home.  I just switched from ATT and never had a good reception.  My friends with the Android phone usually have 2-3 bars.  The HTC Incredible is only showing -100 to -90 signal strength ( 0-1 bars).  I can't keep a signal long enough to have a conversation and sometimes my text messages fail to send.  A couple times the phone didn't ring when a call came in.  Verizon, if you're watching, please send a fix ASAP.  I have 26 days to return!

You really need to copy this message and click the CONTACT US button on the upper right corner of the screen.

Verizon reps are few and far between on here and as for tech issues such as this, I would be sending all the signal complaints directly to Verizon, either by phone or the button above.

I'm having the same exact issues.  Home is so-so and work, which was always borderline, is very poor now.  I can affirm that the typical hold yields ~100db and the forefinger on top and thumb on bottom corner hold yields ~83db.  Surely they didn't design a phone that gets the reception blocked just by holding it.

Suddenly I am getting the feeling that HTC manufactures the iPhone for Apple.  This is the same issue the iPhone has as well.

Well, when I called CS to tweak my account, I asked them to submit to the proper department the what is mostly agreed to be a "cosmetic" issue of the EVDO signal bars.  While 1X appears to read correctly, it is very clear that EVDO is calibrated properly at all.  I did acknowledge with the rep that I already know that bars aren't an exact mesaurement but, they can be pretty dang close.  So hopefully, VZW will actually take note of this and get on HTC and get an update pushed.

To say this is a cosmetic defect is a joke. It is a software issue that could be corrected. C'mon.  Is your battery indicator cosmetic? Is your clock cosmetic? No, you rely on them to give you accurate information that you in turn use to make decisions. Should I make a call from here? Do I need to charge my battery soon? Am I running late?

I see the indicator bounce from 4 bars to no bars to 2 bars to 1 bar, back to 4 bars, etc, etc, etc. I have also had a couple of resets occur while driving down a major highway, where sinal strength is for most other phones not a problem.

I have contacted both VZW and HTC asking if there is a fix in the works for te poor implementation of the RSSI (signal strength bars). After close to a week, I have recieved no response from either. I waited for this device for months before jumping from ATT to Verizon. Now I am considering returning it for something else before my 30 day guarantee runs out. I used to work for a cell phone company. There is no way this problem should be in release code.

Way to go, HTC/Verizon.

If you noticed I said "mostly" agreed.  Meaning, its not cosmetic for everyone.  Anyway, if you really want to push VZW and HTC about getting the signal bar issue fixed.  You got to keep harassing them.  I wish all the posters in this thread would harass them and be sure they submit the issue as something that definitely needs to be looked at.  Tell them about this thread and have them do a Google search or something.  Its everywhere...even in HTC's forums.  If this is to be taken seriously, we all have to harass them and convince them there is an issue.

Ok, I have received the OTA software update and it did not help the problem.  Once again I even used the cell phone in the same room as the Network Extender from Verizon and it showed ZERO bars.  So are they going to address this issue? Anyway if anyone from HTC or Verizon is reading this please have FIX for this problem, as I love the phone except for this crazy problem.  I posted a video clip so that you can see what kind of issue is occuring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpEQH9_A5jw

Thanks
