Has this one even passed FCC testing yet? I highly doubt we'll see the Droid Passion until sometime 2q 2010. People sure like to hype things up don't they? -Just look at the past/present Omnia 2 rumor mill.

I think a lot has to due with the success of the Droid launch. If things go better then expected, Verizon might want to continue the momentum with a release of a more powerful droid... http://www.droidforums.net/forum/htc-droid-eris/45-verizon-htc-droid-anroid-1-5-528mhz-cpu.html

Omnia 2 is a terrible example. That phone reportedly has been way too buggy. It had to be FCC tested a second time. The Tour was FCC approved about 14 days before being released. The Droid was FCC approved at the end of September and it's ready to go. The Passion could be approved in the next week or two and still be ready to go for Black Friday, or mid-December.

"Omnia 2 is a terrible example. That phone reportedly has been way too buggy." -How do you know that the "Passion" WONT be the same scenerio?
"The Tour was FCC approved about 14 days before being released." - Uh, yeah... tell me; how RIM was able to mass produce the Tour in hundreds of thousands, in just 14 days!? And I know that they wouldn't mass produce a product that wasn't already approved by the FCC.
"The Passion could be approved in the next week or two..." -This may be the case, but we still won't see the phone until after the Holiday's.

How do you know it will? Because how many HTC phones have been delayed 6 months after approval and have required re-approval? Don't use the sad affair with Omnia II as your benchmark. You must be waiting on that phone. My condolences.
BB Tour approved June 29th by the FCC:
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-tour-hits-and-passes-fcc-testing
BB Tour released July 12th by Verizon:
Hey, I'm not RIM, but I'm guessing they cranked out the phones ahead of the FCC approval. It's really just a formality. They know these things comply before they submit them. It's not like they submit the device and hold their breath, hoping it doesn't fail.
I'm willing to put my faith in insider information, not once, not twice, but three times leaked. I expect to see the Passion before Christmas. It's certainly more rock solid than your supposition based on the failure of a single phone by Samsung. What other evidence, besides that, do you have to prove this phone isn't coming until Q2 2010, or even after the holidays? Really, none.

HTC phones almost never get rumors except speculation. All we get is FCC pass info and sometimes leaked pictures of Celebrity screens showing it is supported. Which can just mean it is in testing and doesn't necessarily mean it is coming. According to the rumor it depends on 2 things for this phone whether it beats the O2 for being ready and how the Droid does. Droid did pretty well by all marks so maybe. I would expect to see a lesser phone first maybe the rumored Calgary or something. The Saygus has already passed FCC with a pretty awesome processor but it remains to be seen when it will come and how it will stack up. It might come in with better features and better processor at a lower price than Droid because of the newcomer iffy manufacturer.
I for one would love to be a tester for it.

Translation of a Chinese article from yesterday reveals that HTC's orders for Android devices have increased, and those orders include a large number of the HTC Desire (Droid Eris) and HTC Passion.

I wish the translation was in better english. It's hard to tell if they are talking about the Passion in 2010 or what.

Um, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but.....looks like we've been had. First, check the picture again:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/11/10/picture-of-the-htc-passion-dragons-screen/
and then take a look at this:

Somebody just posted that link in the comments on the BGR article. I thought something looked odd about the font used for the numbers in that supposed spy photo. I thought maybe HTC had just changed it up in the updated version of Sense UI for Android 2.0, but now it's beginning to look like it's nothing but a cheap knock-off for the iPhone.
Well, I'm back to loving my Eris, for better or for worse. That is, unless somebody can provide actual solid proof about the Passion's existence. The reason why I broke down and bought the Eris is because every piece of "evidence" for the Passion turned out to be bogus. But of course, we have been promised lots of new phones on Verizon for the holidays, and Verizon has yet to deliver even half the promised amount of new handsets. I guess it's back to the waiting game for the moment.

I too, am patiently waiting (with my old Moto Q9m....LOL) for the rumored HD2 variant, but am starting to lose hope over the last day or two. I'm going to hold out until around black friday. If nothing is confirmed by then, i will probably end up with the HTC Droid Eris as well.
Based on history (which doesn't mean anything at this point, I realize) when would a next likely release of phones be announced after Christmas, I wonder....

It's coming, just be patient. More will be known soon enough. By the way, not every piece of evidence is bogus. The verizon smartphone crown article was accurate. And those pictures the unlockr posted?

There's a lot of posts in various threads saying how verizon sales reps seem to imply "something great" is coming out by the end of the year....and although I've really been hoping it would be the HTC Passion, I'm leaning more and more towards the school of thought that the "great" phone coming out is indeed going to be the Saygus VPhone....I don't want it! Smaller screen than the Droid? Yuck! But I think the "big" thing about it that is supposed to be so great is that it is a video phone....which I know will amaze and wow a lot of folks....but good grief....would someone really want that over something as (from what the rumors say) great as an HTC Passion? Thoughts?

Hmmmm....read the part in this article about how the HTC Passion is already in the hands of the good folks at Google....and that it is going to be solely branded as a "Google" phone....not branded as "HTC"......I'm just thinking out loud now, but could this be why no one has reported seeing anything go through FCC on the HTC Passion....because it is not going to be branded as HTC???
Anyone with the know-how to see what goes through the FCC know if Google has cleared anything through that might be this phone???

I did what I thought was logical and e-mailed support on the 17th to ask them when the Passion/Dragon would be available.
The voice mail response I got was that the guy didn't know when the "Dragon" would be available and that they get an e-mail a week in advance to release.
To me this confirms the Dragon is coming to Verizon.
Hopefully soon!!!!!! The waiting is killing me.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything yet too?? I've been looking all over the internet and can't find anything new. It makes me think that it won't be a mid December release and will probably be pretty far into Janurary of 2010 if at all...
Not sure I if I should wait for this guy to maybe come or get one of the ones out now...

Some posts over the last 24 hours have not given much of a clue. The Koreans are saying it not due out until Q1 2010 but they also said a month ago that a bunch had been shipped out of HTC factories. A couple credible sources here seem to know more about it and said its planned before the end of this year. I have to wonder if the HD2 camera problem will have an impact on any Passion/Dragon release??
