HTC Phone Issues

I have an HTC Droid Incredible that I bough from a Verizon rep on Craigslist.  I paid $450 for the phone.  It's now a $450 paperweight.  Previous to the Incredible I had an Eris.  It had the silent bug and was replaced with 4 other Eris', all with the silent bug.  I gave up on the Eris and purchased the Incredible so that I would have a phone that worked.  It worked for 2 weeks, and now it's gone silent too.  Verizon won't support the phone since I purchased it on Craigslist.  HTC doesn't support the phone - they send customers to a third party company whose customer service technicians are rude and not helpful.  They told me they know it's a software problem and they don't have a fix for it.  When I asked them what they would do to get me a phone that works, they told me that if I sent it in they would fix it (in 2 weeks) and send it back to me.  This, after they said there's NO FIX!

My question?  Why is Verizon continuing to sell phones that don't work?  This bug is widespread and prevalent.  It's the same bug that hounded the Eris.  When I speak with CSR's, they acknowledge that they don't have a fix for it, and yet they're still selling the phone.

Rant over, now selling phones and switching to Sprint.

if you buy from vzn and the phone does not work, they will replace it. if you get someone that tells you otherwise, then get someone else. it looks a lot worse on this forum than it really is. that's because people come to this forum with complaints. hundreds of thousands of incredibles were sold......and i've seen a few dozen people here that got bad ones. same with the eris. i feel bad for your situation, but understand that EVERY phone has some bad ones that are released. google the iphone issues. they are having plenty of bugs with it. or check other forums for other devices, you'll see that any device has some bad ones out there. i would wonder why the guy was sellin the inc on craigslist anyway??? and immidiately after he got it? had he rooted it? or had he had any issues? seems odd? the best thing sprint has goin right now is the EVO....so if you want a comparable phone, you're lookin at another htc.

Check out the AT&T forum and go to the Apple section. You will see all the iPhone people complaining of the phone there :smileyvery-happy:

If you do buy from another source like craigslist, ebay or ubid then Verizon or manufature won't cover the phone. They don't know where the phone has been or what kind of condition it had before. Like AZSALUKI said verizon would replace a device if you bought directly from them & of course still under warranty.

You may want to try to get your money back even though that paper thing is involved. Just ask if you can get your money back.

I'm thinking that if I went through 5 phones I was doing something wrong.

You can switch to Sprint but I don't think you can get phones/plans via Craigslist but it's worth a shot.

May want to check on the 5 phone return poicy.

On a side note... Whats the early termination fee again? And a new contract through Sprint? I mean Craigslist....

My other phone is the HTC Snap with Sprint and has caused me immeasurable grief. I carried insurance on it which came in handy when it took every fiber of my being not to break it into a million pieces. Its only saving grace is excellent call quality. So I was pretty nervous about ordering another HTC phone. The Incredible has a few issues but is still a great phone - but I'm a little disappointed in the call quality because every phone I've ever owned has had perfect call quality. The end of my story is that the Incredible is now my smartphone, and the Snap is being used as a regular phone with no data plan (avoiding the cancellation fee).

First reaction was REALLY!!!

Basically what i heard was "I wanted to get my phone NOW so i ordered it from a unreliable source"

Then i thought 5 Eris all with the same problem? then the same problem with the Dinc? hard to believe but i realize that some people just have bad luck. But blaming Verizon or HTC because you bought from a "Pst! over here" guy is just plain rude and uncalled for.

Sorry if this message offends anyone but gadgetmom88 but i hate it when people put themselves in the situation and then try and blame someone else for thier mistakes

Rule#1: No guarantee on anything over $100 DON'T DO IT!

Rule#2: Don't blame other's if you break Rule#1 because of a disease called "Iwantitnowitus"

I am going to go out on a limb here and say you're not THAT ignorant/naive/whatever other euphemism one can come up with.

You REALLY believe it was from a Verizon Rep, REALLY? LOL pitty. Ok, let's say that was a Verizon Rep, why wouldn't you invest roughly $70 more and just get a phone FROM VERIZON ITSELF? Obviously one that came from the store/warehouse itself and is going to be protected from any and everything for 30 days? Oh that's right.. It's Verizon's fault you wanted a phone -now- so you went on the worst route to go about it possible.

I know a few people with an Eris and LOVE it. Not my phone, per se but they never had a "bug" with it that was earth shattering. Saying the Incredible had this bug is quite..interesting...Really.. Are you "hacking" the phone? If so, STOP.. You're clueless/careless. You are obviously doing something wrong with all these phone gaining this bug and becoming a "paperweight". Whatever it is you are doing, stop, seriously. Also, HTC probably caught your {word filter avoidance} and referred you to a 3rd party so you wouldn't bother them or the provider with your warrent destroying activities.

Going through that many phones signifies a few things:{please keep your posts courteous} You allowed elements to get to the phone, among other things.. This also includes getting a phone used or off a website such as Ebay, C-List, etc. Really though, how can you go through THAT many phones? Given you aren't lying.. That's sad. You should be thinking "What am I doing wrong.. ?Maybe I should go back to a flip phone"

Also, don't bother Verizon/HTC and demand anything from them... {please keep your posts courteous} Don't question Verizon/HTC, question yourself. They are obviously doing a lot correct. Why? Notice how many DINCs sold and only like... a few dozen had legit problems?

Switch to Sprint, dare ya. Horrid in Ohio. Unless you're in a big city or lucky.

Spoiler

He's fail!

{please keep your posts courteous}Why would you pay $250 more for a phone from a questionable source, than what the Verizon website had them listed for. Don't blame the phone here, take a look in the mirror for the source of this problem. I have a HTC Droid Incredible, and it has done nothing but lived up to it's namesake. Hopefully you have a takeaway from this experience, as in learn a lesson not to buy a phone from craigslist for more money than it lists for from a known reputable retailer (Verizonwireless.com). Good luck to you.
