Now I know how ATT customers feel. Ive had a call quality problem with the droid. I get a high pitch frequency sound like a bomb that gets dropped from an airplane in the middle of a conversation, and at first I thought it was just a fluke, but then it kept happening.. Its very rare and intermittent, but still happens... I thought I should exchange it for another droid before the 30 days is up so I wont get a refurb.... And to see if the problem happens on a second droid. If it does, then I figure it would get fixed with a software update... I called verizon and they said no problem come on up. I go up there yesterday and then they say before the exchange they need to do a hard reset and tell them if the problem continues.. So this morning a doctor calls me cuz the wireless keyboard has a problem and then I hear the noise for about a minute out of the conversation... So I go back up to verizon...
Now they have a new rule... They want me to reproduce the problem in the store! Well after an hour and a half I start to get impatient.. Talk to the Store Manager but he wasnt bending to this "policy"...All these customers are in the store many near customer service desk. So I decide to call 611 on the phone and talk to verizon customer service, while I am at the verizon store, at the customer service desk.
I tell the lady on the phone all my problems.... Especially the problems I am having with the store itself.
She says that Verizon has a 30-day warranty and I should be able to exchange or return my phone if I have the phone, ac adapter, receipt, box, etc.... I tell her I am putting her on speaker phone.. I crank up the volume for everyone to hear..
She repeats the 30 day worry free policy and all the customers near me start to laugh. The guy at the store looks at me and says, Sir.. We will take care of this right now. The lady on the phone asks to speak to the agent, 20 seconds of whispering goes on... And he hangs up the phone.. The manager walks over and asks if I am still on the phone with customer service. I said no. He walked off..
Finally...
I got a new droid... Well sorta.... The second droid I notice has a funny mark near the screen and keyboard. Shouldnt be there if it was brand new... They put in my old battery in the new droid, I do the 2.0.1 update, and then after the update, the phone keeps getting stuck in reboot. Never goes past the red eye.... Luckily I was still at the store, and could easily reproduce this error. The phone complained that the SD Card wasnt in, but it was in. I think doing the software update had an ill effect without the SD Card? I didnt tell them how to go into restore mode, because I wanted another phone without a small mark on it.... What was odd is the guy at the store claimed not to notice any mark at all. Granted he should have looked at the phone standing behind me to get in the light.. as the light I was standing in was much brighter then the light he was standing in....
So now I am on my third droid.. No scratches.. Zero problems so far.... But I have only had it for less then a day.
Geez! My little girl ended up not going to the mall, and seeing santa, so I guess we will shoot for tomorrow...
I KNOW if I went to the grapevine store I wouldnt have had any of these problems, but no I went to the store near me, and I have always hated that verizon store.
I called verizon to tell them what I thought about the store, and that second droid. They looked up the ESN and said that was the first time that phone was activated.. Though I still wonder how it got so dirty so fast and how that mark got on a brand new phone...
They gave me a promotion for my trouble... VIP since 02.. Wanted an iphone but I just couldnt leave the mercedes of cell carriers, though today I went to a crummy dealership.
Started with an Audiovox 9500 (best phone I ever had as far as being a phone), then a Razor, then a Q.. Both the Q and the Razr have problems charging because the usb port gets lose inside I guess due to wear but my other phones never did this. Hope the droid doesnt.
PS. Things I tried to fix this.
1. Change to EVRC-B
2. Turned off some privacy call setting.
3. Upgraded to 2.0.1
4. Hard Reset.
Store was in Watauga\Keller area... Should have gone to grapevine. At least once in my life I kept my cool.
😃
I still have the Audiovox.. that thing was known for best reception in "fringe areas"... And it was...
Richard,
I have a couple of startacs and a few Audiovox 9500's, 3 watt
bagphones amd a bunch of others for Verizon and some ATT tdma/analog
Nokia 5100 and 6100 handsets too. I've got a sort of fringe area
coverage obsession and will take a few phones out while hiking or
camping and make test calls. Though not scientific, I figure
attempting many calls on each handset, from the same place, over the
course of repeated trips, is going to provide a pretty good idea of
real world RF performance.

Man... I dont mean to be picky.. but I believe this third droid has a light leak at the bottom of the screen near the buttons. I can see it very easily, where on my old droid I had to tilt the phone to be able to see it. On this third droid, I can see the light at the bottom while facing the screen and BARELY tilting it. I noticed it this morning in bed.
I am going to go up to the store to compare apples to apples (sigh, yet again)... See if the other droids are like this.. I dont remember my first one I had for 3 weeks to have this.

Well I'm certainly sorry for your problem, and I'm exceptionally happy that you got an A)Working Droid and that B) You didn't mentally explode in anger. However C)I kind of am still a little bummed that your little girl didn't get to see Santa 😕
Either way, with new phones, there are always going to be defective ones. There are always going to be ones that you don't feel meets up to your standards. You did a great thing by not only returning one defective phone but two. That's two other people you just made very happy by saving them time.
Makes you feel good huh ?
Either way about the light leak, I would definitely suggest checking out other phones. I believe mine has a small leak, but that's not important enough for me to absolutely return it. Check out other phones, see if that happens too. If not, then you know you got yourself a phone you may want to return. If they give you lip for it, just simply say "Hey, I payed well over $200, whereas on OTHER providers I can get a similar smart phone that works beautifully out of the package." After that bit there can't be much they can say.
Hope this helps, and thanks!
