Handcent Help

Hello,

I am a new Droid X user.  I downloaded Handcent, and made my changes within the application but when I text the changes are not there, do I not text from the text that came with the phone or what do i do?

Handcent is different from the stock messaging preinstalled on your phone and has to ne run seperately or made the default if its going to be your primary messaging application. I just made a shortcut to my home screen by long pressing handcent in my app drawer and placing it on the home screen then i made it the default service.

The way I set it to default was I first cleared the default for the built in messaging app. Then the next time I got a text message a menu poped up asking where to open the text message HandcentSMS or Messaging. There was an option for "use by default" and you check that. Then tap HandcentSMS

You don't necesarily set Handscent as the default SMS app. BOTH messaging apps with receive messages. But you disable the notifications in the stock app and enable the notifications in Handscent.

When you want to send a message, simply open Handscent and have at it.

If you send a message from an open contact's page, the phone will ask which messaging app you wish to use. Select "Handscent" and also check the "use this for the default action" box.

One good thing about the way this works is that if Handscent crashes or had to be re-installed, the stock app stall has all of your messages intact.

I know this is a silly question but what is the difference between the stock sms text and the Handcent texting app?  Does it have graphics?  I just got my phone and i'm trying to figure out what to get from the market.  Thanks

I've never had any trouble with the stock SMS app, but it is a little stoic and Handscent is more customizable. It is that, as well as some functionality things that I'm probably not aware of that puts Handscent at the top of many Android must-have apps lists.
