Ok, so we all know the droid x has issues with wifi connections. You can connect to a router, obtain an IP and yet you still cannot go online. Well I was assured by the friendly rep I talked to at verizon that when I got the update to my phone it would fix the problem. Well last night I was able to update my phone to the 2.3.15 release. I noticed some of my buttons, and icons have changed but guess what. Wifi still doesnt work. So Verizon I would like to know why I would want a phone that is supposed to give me wifi access to the internet (I am talking about connecting to a router not hot spot) but does not work correctly? The only answer I have ever been given is that I need to change the settings on my router. Yeah well thats not acceptable especially when I should be able to connect to public hot spots. Now I really hope to get an answer from someone that actually knows what they are talking about. Because from my experience its luck of the draw when you call whether or not you get someone technically savvy enough to even understand this problem. I am starting to find this whole thing really frustrating and wondering if I didnt just screw myself by not returning this phone within the 30 day trial period.

I'm courious if other people have had their WiFi issues fixed.
I connected to Panera Bread last night with no problems. My home WiFi worked with 2.1 after I changed security from WEP to WPA.

Mine works just fine -- albeit I am using a 10 year old router which doesn't send out a big signal ... I am using WPA security on it and it was very very easy to set up fro my phone to use it.

i understand being frustrated with loosing connections to wifi....I personally never had an issue. As for your point about reconfiguring the router, if it works then it's fixed.
My only issue with 2.1 was not being able to connect to wpa2-AES. that is fixed in 2.2. At moments of week wifi the x will switch to 3g and vice a versa. Try turning off 3g by going into "airplane mode" and turning on wifi.
I don't drop a wifi connetion at all.

I understand where you coming from but I am sorry to inform you of this but this forum is created for users to assist others with issues or problems and other than Forum Moderators there isn't any official Verizon rep present on these forums, so basically if you are awaiting for a official reply from Verizon your request is falling on deaf ears.
But on a note to attempt to assist you some,
1. When you connect the device to the router did you ever establish a web connection?
2. Try unplugging your router and network modem for 10 seconds and then plug in modem and then router to allow them to update connections.
3. Have you been able to connect other devices wireless to the router because from your description it sounds like you could have a router wifi card in unit going bad, usually when they drop connections regularly or not able to retrieve ip address this usually indicates this as a possibility.

Hey Wildman,
Two things, one I know verizon employees troll these boards because I have been contacted by them. It would be a waste of their time and money to have this here and not use it to get an idea of customer issues or satisfaction. Its the same thing as my company does with their facebook site. That aside, it was more to vent my frustrations.
Now in regards to the wifi connection. I do get a connection, I can obtain an IP from any router I connect too. However, from there I cannot ever actually access the internet. This is the same problem I have been having since about a week after I got the phone in July. Everything worked great, I was able to access the internet through wifi and about a week after I got the phone an update went through that killed all of my wifi connections. I was then told that the froyo 2.2 update would solve this problem but since downloading it last night I have not seen even the slightest change. I turn on wifi, connect to any open network, get an ip address, strong signal strength etc and yet no pages can actually load. Now, as far as the router goes, I can try rebooting my home router but consider that this phone is supposed to automatically connect to any remembered open network, such as the one at work which I use the most, but even if it was Starbucks or Mcdonalds for that matter there is no reason why I should have to take so many steps for this to work. I know my home router works just fine as it runs my laptop and xbox wirelessly. I know my routers at work are working just fine as they allow just about anything to connect including a number of android devices. As a matter of fact the only devices I have seen not work are droid x's. Should i call my IT department and tell them that they need to reboot their routers because my Verizon droid X isn't capable of doing what it should? Or ask Mcdonalds and Startbucks to do the same?
I dont mean to come off as being sarcastic, and I appreciate your comments but I know this has been an issue from the get go, I have spent a lot of time researching this online. I know specifically how I could fix the issue by going into router settings but that shouldnt have to be the case. And the only responses I have ever seen from verizon is "well why would you need wifi if you have 3g" "Froyo will fix that" "change your router settings" Somehow I feel like verizon, or Motorolla whomever would be responsible for this, have really dropped the ball with this issue and personally I am fed up with the lack of corporate america giving two {word filter avoidance} about customer satisfaction. I have dropped enough money into verizon over the past 10 years as a customer and instead of getting answers to my issue with wifi they send me a freaking t-shirt. I wouldnt even have this phone if it werent for the what I thought was a very knowledgeable phone sales person that really sold me on the product with numerous claims of what the x does. Now I am dissapointed to say I have found 1 too many droid does nots to keep quiet.

no one expects you to keep quiet....but why don't you just send it back for a replacement instead of all this? If what was explained to you as a fix doesn't work then send it back.
As for VZW not caring about customer satisfaction...definately not true. Just because it's a large corp it does not make it evil. I work for a very large international company and customer care is very important.

Hey DJ, there are those companies that do care, or at least do a good job of looking like it. But verizon has never been one of them. Not for me anyways. On occasion you will get someone there that is really good at what they do and that is always nice. I might look into the replacement option but I hate the idea of having to set my whole phone up again.

Yeah....true. My experience w/ vzw has mostly been positive, but I do understand that not everyone has the same experience.
It does stink to set up the phone again. I suggest you use google backup assistant and at least your contacts and settings will be saved(i think) when you log in to your replacement phone....i havent used it so Im not sure exactly.
Also, just jot down the apps you like and make sure you copy any content from your SD card on to your PC.
For safety....re-format the SD card to delete your private data and then do a "factory reset/ wipe". you can do it yourself or ask vzw rep if you go to a store to do it for you.
But...it does sound like your phone is the issue.
good luck.

Maybe I did not communicate my point about Verizon presence on the forum but from prier notices that the forums are not regularly followed by individuals with direct knowledge from the Verizon technical department to reply to your request and I was trying to point out the most replies on the forum are mostly going to come from Non-Verizon individuals and your post comes across as if you are not open to hear suggestions from the forum and this makes you post hear a little difficult to resolve.
I do realize that there has been reports of this issue but so far I have not experience it with my device and I had no issue connecting to any network, any security setting but in order to figure out a solution it would require some trial and error situation, if the device has doing this constantly it sounds more like a hardware issue on your device and you should simply have device replaced through CS and see if you have any luck connecting after that.
One additional thing, have you verified that the routers supports a wireless N connection, some routers are configured to only support B and G and I have seen this cause connections issue when used with a device with Wireless N access card.
Just a thought, Wish you luck....

Hey Wildman, I definitely am welcome to suggestions from the forum. My original post was really a vent of my frustrations with Verizon.
That being said,
Since the update I have noticed much better battery life, after "forgeting" my home network and then reconnecting to it it does seem to be working now. It doesnt work for me with my works router but I suspect that is the router not the phone. I will try a couple other networks this weekend and see what happens but at least my home router is working without needing any changes to it. I have noticed some funky things since the update though, google search tends to freeze every once and a while and a few other quirky issues but overall the update has worked well. I am sure there will be another one to fix the minor issues I have been seeing. But I am a bit happier with it now

I am glad you was able to get your issue working, now as another suggestion that I usually do not suggest but a Factory reset after installing the update seem to be a must do item, because most issues that I have noticed are coming from information and applications that remained on the device after the update process, since not all applications are 2.2 compatible just yet, if some non-compatible app is installed on device can cause a number of device issues. Plus I have noticed a number of user not have some patches take effect until reset (Volume fix for example), I didnt notice volume increase until I did hard reset.
Just a suggestion, to attempt to minimize later issues with application.

What am I going to lose if I do a factory reset? Am I going to have redownload all my apps? Will I lose everything from my camera as well?

If you backup all your main info, you can restore all data without issues... I can wipe my unit and have it back to normal in about 20-30 minutes following this pattern..
1. If you run Backup Manager before you wipe, all contacts will be backed up to Google and will be restored on setup process
2. Download trial of MyBackup from Market (Full version in Wise) you can backup apps and personal information to SD Card and restore everything after wipe.. (I Dont use app to restore contacts let Google handle that also do not restore system settings)
3. If using LauncherPro, under settings there is a option to backup settings and layout.
4. Photos and images are stored on the SD Card - As long as you do not delete info on card you will not loose any images or videos.
If you require any assistance, I will try to assist you.
