Hide Gallery Folder or Set Folder Default Image

Via my computer I have made a subfolder in one of my Gallery folders and placed pictures in it.  When I look at the Gallery on my phone, and go to Folders, it shows that subfolder as one of the available folders.  Is there a way to set the default image on that folder that displays in Gallery since it doesn't seem to want to show it under where I placed it, or is there perhaps a way to hide this folder from view?  I suppose password protection would work also, so any help with an app or anything that could do this would be great.

Thanks!

@Wildman: No, I had done this before I saw your reply.  I was searching through old forum posts and saw that on one from 2009 or 2010 I think.  I have it all sorted now and ended up getting QuickPic from the market just now.  I'm just wondering if it has a picture frame like bit I can put on a page like the Gallery app did.

Yes all you have to do is place a .nomedia in the folder and this will hide it from all gallery apps...  I tried to attached a file for you just place it in the folder to hide but site wont allow.....  There should be tons on device already so just mount sd card and use search option for .nomedia and then copy (DONT MOVE) file to the folder needed.

Keep in mind that you might want to after placing nomedia in folder goto Setting / Applications / Manage Applications / All Tabs / Media Storage / Clear Data and reboot to avoid gallery having issues next time you open it because sometimes hidding images that gallery already identified cause this issue...  This will resolve this..

You can also just place a . in front of the directory name to keep the folder hidden.

There are also free apps in market that you can use to HIDE pictures. I use "Vaulty Free".  Basically it renames your .jpgs to .txt files after moving them to its own folder. You can also provide it a password to launch the app & view the images.

Another solution if you want a apparently is QuickPic from the market, its a gallery replacement and you can press on folder or image you want to hide and select hide and it basically places the .nomedia file in that location for you.

I have been using SWYPE like forever. I've not been having much luck with it lately - especially after GB.  Certain words just seem impossible to get SWYPED anymore. And especially numbers - like I try to SWYPE any simple number like 10, and it insists on "10th" or some other appended iteration. I REALLY wish they'd release the latest SWYPE to us.

Thanks for the replies.

For those needing clarification, what I am wanting to do is hide an entire folder of pictures.  I had tried to semi do this myself by placing the folder within another, but it still shows up in the main Gallery folder list, so that solution didn't work.  I thought perhaps instead there might be a way to select which picture in that folder was the thumbnail displayed for the folder, in case I couldn't hide the folder from view.

@Wildman: I tried the .nomedia thing yesterday and it messed up Gallery.  It was closing as soon as I opened it, which I'm guessing is perhaps from saving the file directly into the folder when I made it.  I'll have to have a look at the QuickPic app you mentioned.

@Cody21: I got VaultyFree, but I'm trying to figure out why it has two copies of the pictures showing up, and why when I select one of the two, it does not show on the next screen so I can hide it.

The picture frame usually doesn't use a specific galley, usually they just use the directory that you select for app.
