Hotmail certificate errors anyone?

Randomly at different locations, times of day, and 3G and WiFi, I get server certificate errors now on GB when sending or replying to emails. It seems to auto correct later, it's just annoying. Any ideas?

I would try doing the following:

- Go into ACCOUNTS, and remove the emal Account.

- Power off phone

- Do a "CLEAR CACHE" procedure (below)

- Power up

- Go into Accounts and re-add the email account (you'll have to put your login info back in of course).

Wiping cache partition-  cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.

  • Power off
  • Power On Holding Home Key
  • When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
  • Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
  • Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

I am seeing the exact same behavior. I have no solution, but can only offer that for me, the cert errors on the phone annoy me very little because my computer at work is much worse. My employer's configuration has a very limited root-certificate store and the regular user cannot add certificates, so almost every web site is untrusted and requires 2-3 click-through pages.

Ouch. I feel your pain. Did you manually configure the POP & SMTP ports? May have found the issue.

Under outgoing server/advanced settings, I just unchecked verify cert. We'll see what happens.

server certificate errors may be secure or authentication issues.

cox, my pop3 email requires secure but not auth on pop/smtp servers to send/recieve.

That happened to me with Froyo, and it happens, on occasion, with GB. I merely tap on retry, and it goes away. Why this happens, I have no idea. It's a minor irritant, so I don't let it bother me. This, by the way, only happens with Hotmail and none of my other accounts. It may be a Microsoft thing, since Hotmail is a Microsoft item. Who knows?

Thanks for all the replies.  I researched the issue and it doesn’t seem to be a known issue that is reported to VZW or Motorola.  Do you have issues with your data connection in general?  Are you able to connect to the browser, apps that connect to the web, etc?  If you are able to connect then it sounds like a setting issue with Hotmail/MSN.  Please confirm your settings with them.  Please repost if the issue persists.

Thank you.

I have seen this under two situations,

1. Low Reception or connection issue

2. After logging into Google on pc and  device at same time..

I am having the same issue but with Yahoo email.  I haven't received emails since 06-02-2011.  I did pull the battery to reset it and that worked one time.  Fourteen days without getting my emails.  Now I'm getting a connection error.  The following error has prevented a successful connection:  Unable to connect to motor-android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com.  That message just showed up right now.

I am on the phone with Verizon now and have been for 61 minutes.  We are trying everything from clearing the cache and master reset.  I'll update when I get the results...
