How do I remount the qwerty,kl file?

after the 2.2 upgrade I noticed my phone turning itself on constantly whenever I put it in it's case. I then realized a few days ago that the Home key now activated the phone, which is horrible for exactly the the reason I described.

I read that one can change the cdma_shadow-keaypad.kl file and remove the WAKE entry for the Home key.

After getting root access to the phone I did just that but even though it worked for others it didn't work for me.

I dug deeper and found out that the default key mapping file is qwerty.kl also in the /system/usr/keaylayout folder, so I made a backup and changed that file as well. Now my hardware keys do not work anymore (except for the main power key) and even after restoring the backup qwerty.kl file it's not working. I noticed that the file had cryptic keys in front of the first characters when doing a cat with AGB Shell and the other .kl files didn't so I saved the file in ansi as opposed to utf-8 (even though I read that the .kl files are supposedly be stored in utf-8 format...still no dice.

I am at the end of my rope and would really appreciate if someone would know how to fix this. I write software for a living but in the MS world, Linux is not my forte (apparently)... does the file need to be remapped or remounted? Any ideas?

In android the files that you would have to modify would be restricted by the OS so the method to do what you are asking will most likely void your warranty..... I am wondering if you by chance have a case that has a magnet to hold it close? I ask because your issue may not be with the home button but with the magnet triggering the dock sensor in the phone. If you are using a case like this I suggest using Dock Nothingness from the Market to restrict this option, I use it because I hate the dock app on the Droid X so I just replaced it.

Hope this helps.

Oh, one more thing you may have to do a hard reset to resolve this issue. Reset with the instructions found here http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/m-p/29658...

[Edited to comply with Terms of Service]....to go around removing operation files and command files is beyond me why would you do this at all thats why they make developer phones so you dont flub up your cell...

you are 100% right, it was the case.

Now that none of my hardware buttons are working anymore the phone still turned on.

A co-worker of mine mentioned that his blackberry locks everytime he puts it in the holder...the way it should be...

so I tried it and yes, everytime my screen comes in contact with the holder it turns itself on...it also unlocks itself...which I would say is a huge bug.

This did not happenwhen I had the 2.1 version btw.

I'll try that app you talked about

Now if I can figure out to either fix the qwerty.kl mapping or rebuild the phone with 2.1 I'd be happy.

Well the dock option is the main problem because even with phone locked the Dock app will launch when in range of a magnet which is what they use in docks to trigger dock modes. It can be a pain hopefully Dock nothingness does the trick for you also.

Good luck..
