What are the steps to do a manual update?
Does anyone have a straight forward STEP BY STEP explanation on how to perform a MANUAL update of Gingerbread rather than using the Over The Air (OTA) update?
JerryF
Only Official testers have recieved the SD installable so far.
Once GIngerbread is released offciailly to everyone, verizon will probably post the downloadable.
How I did the offcial.
You have to take the file from your pc via usb and move it to the sd card in the main folder (not in any other folder-make sure you have no other update packs with it to make it easier.
You have to put the phone in the update mode which is tricky (not download mode) holdign home key power and volume Up at same time then release. battery MUST be in.
IT will work if the update file is there. You will then tell it update via SD card. it will show the update file
It will begin the process and look like an OTA update icon when it does.
Once complete it will auto reboot.
Houston,
Thanks, you always have good info.
One quick question. When you said "move it to the sd card in the main folder (not in any other folder." I am not sure which is the main folder. Obviously no folder is named MAIN so how would I figure out which one is the main folder.
To me the two most likely ones might be first .downloadTemp and second download.
Wha-da-ya-think? Help...help!
I'm sure he's talking about the main root, in other words, no folders. Just put it on the sd card but not in a folder. That way when it opens up the sd card to get the update, it's right there.
Phil,
Thanks a bunch to HoustonHeart and Phillthedrill! You two have always given good and timely info.
You are both really helpful especially when contrasted with the folks that ask for help and when you answer them they NEVER again log in to see what help was offered or comment if it helped them.
The same goes for the rant and rave folks that rant and then they are never seen again. I have wondered if these folks are really shills.
Thanks and best regards to both of you,
Since you have the official... what version is it? EP4D or EP4P? 2.3.5 or 2.3.6?
You're welcome JerryF, glad I could help.
Still very odd that this version seems to be earlier than P3's "official" leak. It looks like they forked the dev tree then kept working on both.
I guess we'll know more as time goes on.
Ann154,
That is GOOD info, thank you. Some folks may have been caught by surprise.
Did you all get that, a manual update may automatically trigger a Factory Reset. Back up your "stuff."
Best regards and thanks again Ann,
Blackhat is wrong about the update OTA being older. If they say the actual TES notes, at least if that is how they recieved theirs ( they got it from XDA and a tester on a misprinted update-becuase there was never a REAL 4P build from samsung-seems someone tried to customize it and released a batched release).
They would know 4P is not supproted don't confuse it with a test build named 4PC which was the same. 4D was a patched version that fixed the stream glitch that surfaced in mislabled 4P which is not even an offcial build mark tested for those part of the samsung WA testers sign up back last year). The posted 4P was in error.
Which is why I will not refer people to mydroidworld and the charge forum until they correct their information, read what was posted by testers, XDA, and samsung.
What was noticed in the leaked 4P. Streaming and network glitch. Users of Jango and other streaming services reported stuttering and audio glitching in streams. Part of it may be due to the fact that someone altered the file and included the wrong radio antenna for LTE from a different mark code.
So as it remains. TO have an Offcial stable build (4D does not have the issues of the 4p Leak) You must only use the offcial Samsung 4D SD install update, and that is the only way to get furture over the air updates as well.
Mydroidworld forum needs to pull 4p, plae the updated 4D information so users don't end up with a screwed up version.
Otherwise follow the XDA link only.

Thanks for the great info Houston.
I have a question - if I flashed EP4P earlier do I need to flash back to EE4 first if I decide to apply this official update manually?
I'm thinking I probably do, but wanted to check first.
Thanks in advance.
