How do you scan codes into Droid X?

I've seen a bunch of ads saying to "scan to learn more." I have tried passing my screen over the area I should "scan", but nothing happens. I'm sure everyone but me knows how to do this. Will you please share the secret? Thanks.

See the app called BARCODE SCANNER (free in market). Install it and launch it - then point your camera's screen at a QR code. It's self explanatory after that.

I thought barcode scanner was for checking prices, and scanlife was for reading articles.

I guess it works for both as long as the barcode doesn't say scanlife. I just tried one from laptop magazine, barcode scanner didn't work, but scanlife did.
