How to remove voice mail notification?

Hello, how to the hell I remove voice mail notification from the status bar on top of the screen? I am deaf and don't need voice mail..... the only person/company that does it is YOU, VERIZON! There's no reason for you to contact me on my pager. So please, KINDLY, REMOVE THE VOICE MAIL NOTIFICATION! I don't like it one bit. And I should have the freedom and flexliblity to remove it with ease.

"You will need to call Verizon blah blah blah" NO!

Voice mail is a network function, the phone simply being the end of the line of that chain.

You will, much to your chagrin, it seems, will indeed have to call Verizon to disable the voice mail service.

Hi, Adam.  For some reason the voicemail icon is permanently displayed on my wife's Droid X status bar even though all messages have been deleted from her voice mail.  Any suggestions on how to remove it are appreciated.

Hello whillsrich,

Those voice mail indicators can be pretty tricky! No worries though, I can certainly assist with the voice mail notification! May I ask did you press the * key to exit the voice mail system? This will allow the voice mail system to signout on it's own. Also, verify that call forwarding is not active. Simply dial *73 and send then you will hear a brief dial tone to represent that call forwarding is disabled. Finally another troubleshooting step is to turn message indicator off in the voice mail settings, see steps below:

  • Dial *86 (*VM) then press SEND. from the cell phone.
  • Enter the password then press the pound (#) key.
  • Press 4 to change personal options.
  • If this option is not available, press * for the main menu.
  • Press 4 to turn Notification On/Off.

Once you have completed these steps, place a test call from another number and leave a voice mail message. After you leave a message, call the voice mail on the cell phone, erased the test voice mail, and press * to end the voice mail session and remove the voice mail indicator. If you are still having issues after performing the steps above then please reply with your findings so I can further assist.

Thank you...

I have done that, Icon is always on, have cleared all messages and pulled battery out you name it. Annoying only way to know  for sure is missed call icon showing, and then they may have not left a message.

Ive been having this problem for months now. And the date it shows for the voicemail received on my display is 1/5/80. As if I've had a voicemail for 32 years LOL. Guess someone was calling me before I was even born!

JeanneC, That must be a really important message since it was from 1980!
Have you been able to complete the above steps listed by ArnettH?
Does it show this date after each new voicemail?

I had the same problem you are...Tried everything they list here, and still no matter how many voicemail messages I had, it was stuck on "you have 3 voicemais". I finally long-pressed the notification on my Samsung Galaxy S4. When you do that it gives you a button for the 'App Info'. Hit that. Then hit "force stop". Cleared mine out immediately! I really hope this helps!
