Since the update.....my settings were removed and the notifications are driving me crazy! I searched settings, etc can not find how to turn off the notification of incoming email.

I also have the problem. I used to be able to set notifications for g-mail and text message and the rest would vibrate. Now it vibrates AND plays a sound. The only way to get rid of it is to silence the phone entirely which is NOT an option! I am very close to tossing this phone. The thing played a notification all night. I can't shut the phone off at night.
No promises, but try this. Go through the messaging widget (looks like a mail box) , menu button, then messaging settings. You should see test messaging, email, and social messaging. Select each one and you can change the notification setting for each.
