I am so disappointed with the Droid Charge I can hardly stand it. I hate it - hate it - hate it. There are so many issues a person doesn't even know what to address first. Drop Calls, Can't Hear the other caller or they can't hear you. No Network Available, Phone locks up and the only way to fix is pull the battery...... Call Verizon Support - HA! I can't wait until my contract is up! Verizon you have done nothing but make me an unhappy customer. Too bad as I have spent and will unfortunately continue to spend a lot of stupid money with your company. But in 2015 - nevermore - nevermore!

Dear HateTheCharge,
I wonder if this is even possible. Go to your VZ store and have then completely re-install the current version of the FROYO 2.2.1 software plus the latest Baseband Version i510.06 V.ee4 and Kernel version 22.6.32.9. (build number SCH-I510.EE4).
Have them do a MANUAL install and NOT an Over The Air (OTA) install. Manual installs work MUCH better than OTA installs.
Maybe the original install of the software into your phone was faulty. Believe me it does happen.
It's worth a try and it's better than being so upset!!! And it will not hurt your warranty.
Go for it and please let us know the results.
BTW, I have always thought that some original software installs to Charge phones were faulty from the Get-Go..

Your post may be the clue I am looking for. My first Charge had issues and the OS was slightly different. My current one is flawless so far, but it has all the versions you list of all the stuff you listed. Thanks for your post.

My wife's phone had a number of the same issues. Called support like 3 times and a trip to the VZW store. Finally got a decent CLNR that seems to have fixed the problems. Has been working great for the last 2 weeks.

Certified Like New Replacement aka Refurb. That is what VZW sends when they replace a phone under warranty.

I hate to read that you hate your Droid Charge and that you are counting down the days to terminate service with us.
What can we do to help? We want you to be a happy customer with our service as well as with the products we sell.
You stated you are dropping calls. How is your signal generally? Is this when you get the No Network Available message? Are you dropping calls at one particular location? Are you dropping calls everywhere you go? If that's the case it may be a faulty device. Have you called in to techincal support or gone into a store to troubleshoot the phone at all?
You also said you can't hear the other party or they can't hear you; do you use any type of bluetooth device or stereo headset with your charge? What happens when the volume is adjusted? Can you hear on speakerphone?
Since this is a 4G phone, are you in a 4G/LTE area? Are you on the borderline of 4G & 3G.

I, too, have the same phone. I HATE IT. I HATE IT. I HATE IT!!!
My phone will suddenly close out my text message and back to the home screen. Same thing some of my apps. I will choose an app..same thing, closes out and goes to my home screen. Then my phone freezes, resets itself, turns off...lags...oh my gosh, does it lag. It will be 15-20 second lag at times. I hate this phone!!! Regret letting Verizon talk me into this phone instead of my favorite...the iPhone. Which I had NO problems. Will never get another Droid again!

CADavis,
Did you check to see if your Charge phone has the EXACT same OS as my Charge phone which, incidentally, works perfectly???
Here is another thing you can do to see if the battery may be causing your problems. To do this you must have have a FULLY charged battery. It is important that it's fully charged so go take a look at its percentage of charge to see that it says 99 or 100%. If not charge it and then keep it plugged into the 115 volt electrical current charger, NOT the USB port because the USB port does not charge with as much power as does the 115 volt charging.
Now use you phone that way for a while just to see if any of your problems go away because you now have the highest and best power available because you battery was fully charged and you are still connected to the charger.
Obviously if some or all of your problems go away then the battery may not have been providing enough amperage to run the phone properly.
If you choose to do either of the above please post your results here, thanks,
JerryF

phillybama1,
Easy my friend! Everything works and with the the 2 or 3 things that ultimately seemed to go bad I was able to diagnose and permanently fix even before someone answered my question on this forum.
I guess I'm lucky!
Bama, to my surprise with all my overzealousness re batteries few have reported back that they tried it although a few have proven that it was the battery and, I think, two said it did not work. By now I thought I would have 20-25 responses as to whether it did or did not fix their problems.
I wish other Charges were this good. On the other hand, I do hope this does not become: "famous last words."
Best personal regards,
JerryF
PS, I just looked through this post again and even the person that started this post, with their first post, has not responed to any of the suggestion for maybe fixing the problems. It is amazing how often this happens.

I am on my third Charge since August. I hate it hate it hate it too! Can't wait to get rid of this piece of junk! I can't believe I paid over $300 for this phone not to mention accessories, and more than one battery is a must. I'm no phone dummy, I know how to root and do the battery saving tricks and all that stuff. This third phone seems to drop 3G less often and my muted calls aren't as much of a problem, but Visual Voicemail on all three let off a terrible screeching noise every time you play a message. There is no updates or support for this phone. I had to return my first one within two weeks thinking it was faulty. The next one did the same thing, then I had to call Verizon like 10 times over a couple weeks to get this third replacement. I can unplug my phone, not use it at all and get to work and it is down 13% in 1.5 hours... What kind of crap is that? I know all about killing apps and all that junk, doesn't matter on this phone. Check out androidfurms.com, people over there don't like it either. Oh, and what's up with no LED notification lights on a $300 phone???? The screen is the only nice thing about this phone. I will give them that. Never buying another Samsung again!

rsgoldens,
If I send you a private message with my mailing address will you mail me whichever battery was in your phone when you experienced all those failures??? It would be nice if it was the same battery that lost 13% of its voltage while you drove to work.
Because my Charge works perfectly (NO problems), I want to run my phone using your battery just to see if your battery could be causing your problems. NOTE: even though your battery may show it is fully charged (3.8 volts), it may not have enough power (Amperage) to run your phone properly.
I will return your battery and also report my findings.
Also, check to see if your Charge phone has the same set of OS as in the attached photo.

Hi Jerry,
My settings matched yours. I don't know which battery it was because I have 3. I appreciate your willingness to help. If I turn off 3G it helps a lot, but I think turning it off and on with my previous phone was some of the issue with it dropping it all the time... Anyway, my Razr should be here by Friday, so I don't care anymore really. Not to be a hater, but I feel ripped off by Samsung and Verizon. Glad you like your phone though.

Well as far as battery I would go with a 3200mAh battery from gorilla gadgets works great for me and comes with the back plate. Not sure the actual estimated battery life you will get as I’m running 2.3.6 gingerbread build which is smooth with no lag of forced closing issues.
As far as improving battery performance with the stock battery that is not going to happen with the provided OTA till the new GB update comes out whenever that is. As far as the lag I would use a program like spare parts pro and under the settings adjust the windows animations and transition animations to "fast" That should help a little with the sluggish problem. Based on the stock OTA your options are fairly limited. Hopefully a new OTA arrives soon.

I have to say I'm surprised by all the hate for the Charge.
I've had it 4-5 months, and while I've had a couple issues, overall it's been a great phone.
The battery life seems much better than the Droid Incredible it replaced and the screen is as good as any I've seen. (and better than most)
I've had a couple lock ups where I had to remove the battery, but a couple over the amount of time I've had it isn't going to change my opinion.
On one occasion I couldn't get the GPS to work, but other than that time the GPS has been great.
I have model number SCH I510, firmware 2.2.1, and kernel 2.6.32..9.
As far as iCrap goes, I'd rather go buy an old school flip phone than go that direction. I just hate proprietary, closed systems- period.
If I were buying today I'd get a Bionic or Razr, but I don't feel like I'm "missing out" with the Charge.

phillybama1,
I re read my previous post to you today and just wanted you to know that when I said, "Easy my Friend" I meant that it was easy to say that my phone is perfect and NOT for you to take it easy...okay? I enjoyed your funny post.
Best regards,
JerryF

My build is exact same. Have tried every remedy in the book to help my issues which everyone else has. Bottom line is the phone needs an update or more and more people are going to act out and get rid of this device. Verizon and Samsung will both be sorry for the mistake they've made. But what do I know, I'm a noob I guess. Nothing anyone can say on any of these forum sites that would ever change my mind about this device. Unless your device has the leaks of a higher build. (you guys are lucky) Hey Hatethecharge, we both have something in common with our names LOL. DONE DONE DONE with Samsung. I'll stick with Motorola or HTC, at least they KEEP their devices up to date. For the ones saying, "oh, well I'm glad they're waiting to push out GB for this device because they're trying to have least bugs as possible." That's a UN-educated statement. You know why? The phone is going to have bugs regardless. No Android phone is ever perfect with no bugs. But a phone that drops data in and out is a tragety of a device. I have NEVER had a phone that has done this. Even the old school flip phone Razr. This device is no longer one of the TOP runners. It HAS been put on the back burner while 4 new TOP runner devices are about to be pushed out.
