As many other people have posted on the net, the Eris has some serious signal problems. I"m on my second Eris and I barely register signal even after all appropriate updates. At home where all the other VZW phones that come by, they all register full signal as well. My Eris...both of them actually, will usually register 0 bars and 0 dcb. Sometimes it would go up a bar or two but, return to 0. So.....I need your help/input. My brother had just got a Moto Droid. He stopped by and I was able to check out the signal while he was here at my house. His Moto has its update...it shows the full signal like the rest of the VZW phones. He has the same PRL as me. So that leaves two possible causes. The obvious difference in hardware is one or it could be the difference in software from 1.5 to 2.0.1. That is where I need advice. I'm still within my 30 day window. Do you think its a hardware defect or a software defect that will be patched when 2.1 is released for the Eris? Should I keep my Eris and wait or trade? I like the Eris but risk being stuck with a phone that has a hardware defect.

I won't tell you what to do, but remember that hardware defects are covered for 1 YEAR, not 30 days.
Is it also possible that maybe in some instances that the software is reporting the wrong signal strength? Do you get dropped calls at home, does the voice quality suffer, or is the phone simply showing 0 bars?
I know the Samsung Moment has absolutely terrible problems with regards to it's battery meter. It would drop from 100% to 15% in 90 minutes of stand-by sometimes for me. Then it would sit on 15% for the next 8 hours before starting to drop towards 0.
Just a thought.

Yeah....I understand the 1 year warranty bit. I even got the extended warranty but, my concern then would be having HTC admit there is a hardware issue if it turns out that the migration to 2.1 doesn't fix the issue in question. If HTC doesn't admit and fix the hardware issue if that is what it is...then warranty exchanging a few months from now will not necessarily make a difference.
