I can get email, but can not send it.

I'm having the same problem that a lot of people are. My personal email will go to my phone, but I can not reply or send an email from my phone. I had a blackberry before and never had any problems with it. It is a POP3 email, I entered all the servers and ports, and still can get it to send. I checked with clearwire, they couldn't help. Can anyone help me fix this? If not the phone is getting returned and a new blackberry in it's place. Thanks for any and all help.

You need the outgoing mail server settings. If you have a cable company provider specially. If your gmail works fine, its an email server settings., Make sure you get the port number, require authentication and all those goodies.

Which email service provider are you using? I will be glad to post the incoming and outgoing server information once I know which provider you are using.

I have Voyager.net  email, through Corecomm.  They helped me set up my incoming email, but told me that I would have to contact Verizon for the outgoing portion.  Can you help?

Thanks

They have to give you the outgoing mail servers too. Its their email service not verizon's.

Instead of telling you "We have our servers set up to where you need to be connected to our services to unsure our servers will not be used for spam or malicious attacks" they just wanted you to contact Verizon to see if they have an alternative email server.  I used to have an iPhone and I had to do that with Roadrunner mail, and use AT&T's alternative email server.

The Verizon incoming server is incoming.verizon.net and the outgoing server is outgoing.verizon.net.

If you use your own domain (eg. someone@yourownbusiness.com) to send and receive email, check with your domain name registrar for your POP and SMTP settings. Then use Manual Setup.

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch My Accounts.
Touch Add account.
Touch Email.
Enter the following information then touch Done:

Email
Password
Touch Next.
Touch Done.
If prompted, The social service is unable to automatically set up this account, touch Set up manually then continue to step 8.
Touch General Settings.
Enter the appropriate information into the following fields then touch Ok:
Account name
Real name
Email address
Touch Incoming Server.
Touch the drop down menu.
Touch the appropriate option.
POP mail server
IMAP mail server
Enter the appropriate information into the following fields then touch Ok:
If applicable, touch Use secure connection and / or Verify Certificate (enabled when a green check mark is present).
Server
Port
Username
Password
Touch Outgoing Server.
Enter the appropriate information into the following fields then touch Ok:
If applicable, touch Use secure connection and / or Verify Certificate (enabled when a green check mark is present).
SMTP server
Port
Username
Password
Touch Other Settings.
From the Delete messages older than field, touch the drop down menu.
Touch one of the following options.
1 week
2 weeks
1 month
2 months
Never delete messages
Touch Ok.
Touch Ok.

MorganB can you post similar information for Charter?  I have the same problem as the rest on this post. I get an "authentication error sending"  I have entered the server, port, username and password identical to what my desktop account is set up as and cannot send outgoing. I assume that the cable companies must have a different set of ports for smart phones?

Curiously, this has only begun in the past month. The first 2-3 months or so that I had my DROID I could send emails just fine.

Thank you for the quick reply Paul D.

The settings provided in the link were different that what I had set and different from my desktop account setting,  (mail.charterinternet.com vice pop.charter.net  for incoming and smtp.charterinternet.com  vice smtp.charter.net).  No change to perfromance I sent forwarded 2 test messages and immediatel they showed up in my outbox as unsent with  the same message as before "authentication error sending".

This seems to be a universal issue with Droid as the common denominator, not the ISP's. Are there any other solutions? is dthere any testing going on in the labs that we can be kept updated on?  If this cannot be resolved shortly, I will need to consider going back to the RIM apps and get another balckberry. Their interface and capabilties ar enot as good, but email did work both directions without any issues.

one other note to other users if you make any changes,  when I changed the account setting I also lost all of my emails in my inbox!

I use Cox as my ISP.  Their on-line documentation suggests that Smartphones may connect with the SMTP server through port 587.  However, this does not work with the Droid2.  With some help from my local Verizon store, we found a suggestion associated with the iPhone that port 465 might work for a secure connection.  IT DOES!!!  Also, Cox has confirmed that 465 may be used, but has not yet advertised that option.

Tom-We have been working with Verizon Tech support and our office Tech support, have spent hours on the phone with both and in conference calls with both on the line. Not once was port 465 mentioned, I can't believe the people at Verizon don't know this! What a waste of time, when the fix was so simple. We did as you suggested, and PRESTO, our sent mail goes out without a hitch.

Thanks for taking the time to post your solution!
