I forgot my password for my Wi-Fi hot spot

I thought I had memorized it.  But apparently not. How can I reset the phone without losing my photos, aps, and such? What is a "soft reset?"

Uh? You titled this that you forgot the password for your wifi hotspot and yet it is posted in the DROID X space. The body of your post is referring to a phone. Even you were using the mobile hotspot feature of the phone it wouldn't/shouldn't be the same password to get into the phone if you use a security option on the phone's lock screen.

Some/many I have seen uses your 10 digit phone number or you can look in your setting of the phone for it.
