...but I've been reading these forums and I'm not so sure I should buy one anymore. The Droid X seems like a great phone but reading all of your original problems with the phone and now new issues since 2.2 dropped yesterday, I'm not so sure anymore. Would it be smarter to go for the Droid 2, which doesn't seem to have as many issues even though I like the Droid X better?

Let's keep everything in context. Only a small percentage of Droid X users are on or even aware that these forums exist. To be generous we will say 5%. Of those people, again generously speaking 5-10% are having issues. Now if you have used other forums i'm sure you know that some of those people just can't be made happy and/or they experience buyers remorse.
In my case, I have had no real issues. I love my Droid X.
You are smart to do your research, but please don't let our vocal miniscule minority be your only resource.

Personally, I love my Droid X and have had no problems at all with the phone or the 2.2 update. I was actually surprised when I saw the problems that people on this forum have been posting as I have had none of them. My only issue so far is not being able to load the Verizon FiOS remote apps on my phone.

I can honestly tell you I LOVE my droid X. I left Tmobile to come to Verizon and initially got the blackberry for free. After a couple of weeks I kept wondering if I should change to the droid X before my 30 day period ended. I went into the Verizon store and played with the Droid X and the Droid 2. I could have walked out that day with the Droid 2 but decided to go with the X. For me, i am a multimedia hound. i like to have my music, movies, video on my phone for travel and they look great on the X. I have done the update and have not had any problems since getting my phone. I think the amount of Droid X owners having issues is small compared to the actual number of Droid x owners. My phone was working well before the update, now is working extremely well.
I refused to settle for the Droid2 because in my heart I knew it was not truly what I wanted. I am so glad I made that choice. The phone is AWESOME.... and did I say it is AWESOME???

Most smartphone user do not understand that these phones are 600 dollar mini computers that can make phone calls. Many of the problems that are being discussed here are because the users just simply do not know how to use the device. I am not discounting that there are some defective devices out there but they are few and far between. This forum is very discouraging at times I will admit but as I stated most people are complaining about issues they are having that could simply be fixed by knowing a little more about the device they purchased. In my humble opinion people who do not understand the concept of smartphones should just stick with a simple flip phone that makes calls and texts. I don't really want to discourage people from learning about smartphones and even purchasing one but when and if you do get one please don't complain that your device is defective just because you cannot use it correctly. I have an X and I absolutely love it!!! Bottom line is that you should play around with several phones and decide which one is best suited for what you need in your everyday life.

personally i really like the X...for too many reasons to list here. I had some, minor problems, but then again, I have never owed a phone that worked perfect. But the good thing is that u cant take advantage of the 30 day trial period, and if the X is nto for you then can switch...the only catch that there is a restocking fee...not sure the amount...$30 maybe?

Lol at you basing your purchase on a forum. Everyone knows forums are for users who have problems and those who try to help them.
Lots of people had to wait two weeks or more for their machine; I got mine 25 hours after I ordered it online.
Some people say Froyo messed up their phone; mine is perfect.
Some say volume is an issue; I never had volume problems with my machine whatsoever even before Froyo came out.
Some are having trouble syncing; mine is syncing right now and everything is perfect. It's even converting what needs to be so that the files can work on my machine.
Some got a refurbished phone; mine is brand new (new car, err, phone smell anyone?)
Some have issues with WiFi; mine is perfect.
I can list lots of other problems and my phone will still be perfect. I am sure lots of other forums users have a phone in excellent condition, same as mine, so I don't know where you got your notion from.
Then again, don't get oneand keep your alias; I may just order another and keep it in my closet.

I'll tell you one thing for sure. The call quality on the Droid X is superb! People say I sound like I'm calling from a land line, and I hear callers crystal clear. The speaker phone with 2.2 was a major improvement over 2.1 for me. The noise cancellation feature of the Droid X is also superb. People say they hear me perfectly while I'm riding in my convertible with the top down.
The large screen on the X is great too.
Just my 2 cents.

Everyone that has responded to your post has offered really great points, especially the points about basing a purchasing decision on a forum such as this. I can't add a single thing.
Okay, I can add one thing. Personally, I think that you'll love the Droid X, as I do, but the Droid 2 is a really good phone, too. This is a case of the need to spend some time in the store playing with both phones and seeing which one appeals to you more. X is bigger, which I've thoroughly enjoyed, but the Droid 2 has a slide-out keyboard, which definitely has its advantages to some folks.
It's purely a matter of taste. You will not at all go wrong with either phone.
And no, in spite of what a few posters would have you believe, I do not work for Verizon. And I seriously doubt that any of the responders do, either.
Good luck, Geri O

i got a Droid X a few days ago, i previously had an enV Touch, which i loved.
so far, i do not seem to have any problems related to software [my current version is 2.3 i think] but i downloaded it upon receiving the phone so i have no comparison to what the previous version was like.
i was able to sync my contacts, it did take some juggling and editing and i'm still finding mistakes. i did like the merge feature.
my biggest peev so far is trying to set up my contact shortcuts. if you are used to having them easily accessible with a contact photo, you might be disappointed, as there seems to be a glitch associated with the linked facebook accts. this is important to me, so i'm hoping it gets resolved.
i do love the integrated messages and emails and all the linked social networks. there are some nifty features here.
the keyboard [not swipe] is a little touchy and takes getting used to. i'm going to try swipe next.
it is fast and responsive, videos look great, volume is good [for me] haven't set up rhapsody yet, for which i have an on-the-go acct.
i must say, i hated it when i first got it, but am warming up to it. hopefully the programmers will resolve the photo/contact issues. this is a visual multi media device, so it seems natural to assume that users should have control of their visual contacts.
i'm glad there is a 30 day return policy. i'm going to see how it goes. if i still can't get the things that bother me worked out, i think i'll check into the Samsung Fascinate.
