When you turn the phone on does it say "DROID" in a metallic voice like in the commercials?
It makes the sound you have set for your notifications when it mounts the SD card.
Settings - sound, check the SD card notifications box.
I have set that sound to loop in my headphones before i fall asleep, just hoping to trigger some Droid Dreams at night!!!
Dj
Yes it does.
Little known fact: Every Droid phone is equipped with an internal small Adroid, whose singular purpose is saying "DROID" upon powerup. That's why they're $400.
when you start up the droid x, the letters D R O I D show up on the screen, and they all form together to form the Droid's eye, and that's when it says "Droid" in its robotic voice
-screams like a schoolgirl-
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!
Now I really can't wait to get mine own. Hey, would anyone be willing to post their address so I can rob you? Lol. Btw, thanks for the info mates!
It depends on the notification you have set for that function, but the "droid" voice is one of the options yes.
I have the "Droid" voice as my text message notification.
I also have it set for text and mail notification. People in the office hear it - love it.

How do you set it to say Droid when you start the phone? Mine does not. It just displays the red eye.
I do have it set as my notification for my text messages. I giggle every time I get a text message.
Thanks!

My notification ringtone is set and I do not hear DROID when the phone starts. Is that tone set somewhere else?
I haven't found a "sound setting" for powering on the device except "play sound". It did play "Droid" sound when I first powered it on... I wonder if it's connected to the 'Android' widget {which I removed after reviewing it's files}?
As I rarely power off, it hasn't been an issue.
Still, setting the power on and power off sounds would be a sweet feature....
