I want to love my new Incredible but...

There are a couple of issues that I'm seeing that I can't get a straight answer from anyone I talk to at Verizon either on the phone at a store.

1 - Battery Life: I'll typically give my phone a full charge overnight. If, starting around 8:00 AM, I have a 'normal' day (not a ton but some online usage, a few calls & texts) my phone is totally dead by about 4:00pm.

Is this normal? When I go to my local store with this question I'm not given a solid answer. Just told things I can do to help battery life. I would loove to hear a honest answer as to how much battery time I should realistically expect.

2- Heat: I'm I use the phone for more than 5 or so minutes in a row the phone starts to get super hot. I can't even put it in my pocket afterwards because it's so uncomfortable. Again, I ask the question, is this normal?

Please let me know the truth. If the answers are Yes then I can accept that but please just be honest with me & anyone else out there dealing with these issues.

The battery has been a problem on the Incredible. I'd recommend you getting an extended battery. You can here on HERE. It should increase your battery life. Here are a few more tips.....

Dim It

The brighter your screen, the more juice you're using. If you're in a dimly lit room, turn down your screen's brightness.If you use your smartphone to play music, lower the volume.

Stop Searching

It is great that you can use Bluetooth technology to connect your smartphone to a headset, or use Wi–Fi to speed up the downloading of e–mail messages. But when you're not using that headset or not near a Wi–Fi hot spot, turn off those features on the phone.

Skip a Generation

Your smartphone is also continually looking for a cellphone signal. If you're in a weak signal area, your phone must work even harder to find one, decreasing battery life. If you know that there is no coverage in your area, turn off your portable device's mobile capabilities

Check Mail Manually

Mobile smartphones can check for e–mail messages and instant messages automatically. Or they can be set to "push" notifications as soon as they arrive in your server's mailbox.

Both strategies can be power hogs. To increase your battery life, turn off push and increase the interval between when the phone checks for new messages. Or better, set up your phone to check for messages manually.

About heat, I don't have the incredible but on my phone it does get warm. If I am charging it it'll get warm or if I am talking on the phone for a long time. Never had any problems though.

I've coded an app called Battery Detective, its in the market (search for kenyu73). It's still in its early phase, but it monitors temp, signal, battery drain and awake time.

It's not the greatest in the world, but it does monitor what I've said and gives nice alerts when the threshold are exceeded.

ravenmad is right. there have been complaints about batteries....but it sounds more like you have a bad battery or phone. i would return it and demand a new phone and battery. my battery life isn't great....but i can get a full day out of it and i use it quite a bit. it also DOES NOT get hot (maybe warm....if i've been playin with it for a half hour straight...but not hot...and not after 5 minutes). i'm afraid none of the battery saving tips are going to help your phone.

Can't address the heat, sorry. I don't have that problem with my Incredible. Maybe my calls just aren't that long?

Regarding the battery life, I found 2 things to be key.

1. Power Control Widget. Download and install a widget to that allows you to turn off WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth when not needed. From what I understand, WiFi is the biggest power hog of the bunch. With the power control widget, I keep WiFI and GPS off unless I need them.

2. Advanced Task Killer. Download this free program to shut down applications running in the background that use up battery power even when the phone is not in use. ATK allows you to ignore programs you need to leave running and kill other apps automatically on a schedule you select.

Using these two programs, I'll get almost 2 days of typical use on a charge.

I don't have said battery life issues since i follow some steps like making sure blue tooth is off and WiFi when I am not using them and my phone will last all day with constent texting and internet browsing.

On the other hand I am having said heating issues. My phone will get so hot that it will actually start shutting down and keep restarting it's self. It doesn't happen much at home in the airconditioning. But out on the road in the car it will do this. I find it very annoying when using the phones GPS and it keeps shutting off and restarting and I am lost in an area I am unformilar with.

I downloaded the Advanced App Killer, go to the market on your phone and search 'app killer' it's free and has been a life saver. Now my battery is lasting at least 36-48 hrs with regular usage. I check it periodically and inevitably I have an app running that I am no longer using. The advanced app killer will put a bar and the top of your screen & all you have to do is slide it down and select which running apps you want to close, then select kill apps.

Forgot to add, if you click on menu > settings > scroll down & select About Phone > battery > battery use - it will tell you the % of power used by various running apps. I leave the Wi-Fi on all the time and it only uses 3% as does Cell Standby and Phone Idle. The greatest draw is MAPS... it takes 91% so that I always use app killer to close. Also the batter seemed to last longer after draining it to the RED line 3 or 4 times and then recharging with an extra few hours after the charge indicator light turned green. Hope this helps.
