Imap sent folder does not update

I am having issues getting Imap email setup.  The main issue is the Sent folder.  I am able to get an email account setup and it will send and receive emails.  The issue is the sent folder is not updated.  Verizon does not know why.  I think I understand why but do not know if anything can be done.  The sent folder on the server is a subfolder of the inbox.  I had talked with my service provider to see about change the structure and I cannot.  Can anyone tell me if what I think is correct.

 

Summary:  Sent folder does not update.

Reason? Inbox is the root folder and Sent is a subfolder of Inbox.

The built in mail client does not work if the sent folder is not the root.  I have downloaded K9 email and IMAP works as it should.  I also tried Maildroid it also works.  I will be using K9 for my new email.  Both K9 and Maildroid are found in the Market.
