In call volume not too good

Love my new DroidX except for the incall volume.  Speakerphone is great, ringtones are OK, but the incall volume through the earpiece is seriously lacking.  I have it turned up all the way and have difficulty hearing it in my car.  Compared to my old LG Chocolate phone the DROIDX volume is about 2/3 as high.  The LG I could easily hear a few inches from my ear.  With the DROIDX I have to have the phone pushed hard against my ear and the speaker had best be positioned right over the ear canal.

I have read numerous complaints on this issue and some have said it was addressed in 2.2.  I just picked up my phone a few weeks ago from the Verizon store and  it already had 2.2 so I can't really compare any improvements.

Are there any fixes out there for this or any speaker volume improvement apps, etc?

Sounds like you have a hardware issue.  With mine sometimes I think it's on speaker phone with the volume down a little, then I realize it's just in regular call mode.  It's about 3x louder than my wife's old Chocolate.

I'd take it to the store and have them look at it.

I agree, it sounds like maybe a hardware issue because I drive the highway alot with windows down and work in areas with a room full of rack servers that has fans that is less than quite but I never had any issues hearing the conversation through ear peice in these situation.

It may be a hardware issue, but try going into Settings>Sound>Smart Sensor Settings (at the very bottom of the list). If they are checked off, uncheck them. These two items have caused a lot of headaches. See if that helps.
