I have a Droid Bionic. When I receive a call from another cell phone instead of hearing the ring tone assigned to calls (I heard it through the grapevine), the phone chimes as though receiving a text message; however, when I receive a call from a land line phone my phone emits the correct ring tone (I heard it through the grapevine). I have the vibrate feature turned on and the phone vibrates regardless of whether the incoming call is from a land line phone or a cell phone. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thanks,

I tried switching over to safe mode but the problem continued. Given the
earlier question about calls from people in my contact list, I deleted all
my contacts and then recreated them. So far that seems to have fixed the
problem. I sure hope so.

ehinz,
We want you to be able to discern between your calls and messages. It's rather strange that this is happening since the settings of your phone can't determine if a call is from a landline or cell number unless you have a contact specific ringtone set up. When did you start having trouble with the ringtone? Does this happen with alls you receive from any number?

Hello ehinz,
We definitely want to ensure your ringtones are set up correctly. Are the people calling you contacts in your phone? When did this first begin?

The problem just got more bizarre. After reading your question about calls
from contacts I deleted one of my contacts and then had her call me on her
cell which resulted in the correct general ringtone. So I had another
contact (her number was still in my list of contacts) call me on her cell
phone and again the correct general ringtone happened. Then I put the info
back into my contact list of the person whom I had deleted along with a
personalized ringtone. I had her call me and the correct personalized
ringtone came through. Problem solved, right? Not so fast. I then had
someone call me on a land line and the call came through with the chimes
ringtone assigned to text messages. So it seems the problem has just
flip-flopped the conditions. And it regards to when the problem started,
it was a few weeks ago and MIGHT have been after I had connected my phone
to my laptop to download some photos. But I'm not sure of that timeframe.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

ehinz,
Thanks for trying all of that. It's weird that these are changing but we want to make sure everything plays like it should. Are you able to try these in safe mode http://vz.to/2kzZQlq and see how the texts come in?
