Hello All,
I got the Droid Incredible on launch day, and I have loved the phone, with only minor problems compared to what everyone else is having. Random reboots were the biggest offender.
Recently my Incredible went crazy and sometimes does not like to turn on for hours, even on a fully charged battery. When I called Verizon they sent me out a new battery, didn't fix the problem. Then they sent me out a new phone. Since it didn't turn on, I argued to have it shipped next day air at no cost to me, which after "getting it approved by a manager", it was sent two day air. Well it was supposed to arrive on Friday, with Next Day Air, so guess what, now I didn't get it until late Monday afternoon. I kind of had an idea that I was going to receive one with an SLCD, not an AMOLED screen but I had no choice. After a few days, with both phones side by side, I cannot stand the yellow hue compared to my old Incredible.
I contacted Verizon this morning and the lady knew about the changes in the screen, but she did not offer any solution other than to deal with it. I asked to speak with a manager, she put me on hold for about 5 minutes, then came back and told me that the manager was unwilling to do anything. I could however contact HTC to see if they could change screens. And they won't be able to because HTC switched to SLCD on most of their phones now.
I think after being a new customer, and expecting at least good customer service since I am making a $2951.52, and !99.99 for the handset commitment to them for 2 years that they would be a little more willing to do something. I wanted to see if I am way out of line on this. It all comes down to personal preference and the AMOLED screen WAS a selling point with the Incredible.
I only wish Verizon would consider something to help with this, since I am getting an inferior screen in my opinion.

In the packaging that I got yesterday, specs are not to be found.
If you download the "Manual" from Verizon's smart phone resource center, the specs do indeed say AMOLED display.
However.... the specs also have a disclaimer: "Specifications are subject to change without prior notice".
I'm not trying to convince anyone that you shouldn't want AMOLED. Heck I wanted AMOLED. But, for me, the difference is not worth the perpetual "out of stock" conditions on this phone.
I did compare my new Incredible with my original moto Droid. And I can say this, the Incredible I got yesterday (8/28) at the V store is most definitely better. Blacks are immediately recognizable as much "blacker". So count me as placated for the moment regardless of the technology my display is using.

if they disclaim it then i have no issues. the problem they are going to have is that sure....if you didn't ever have one with the amoled screen, then what you got will look much better than your old phone.......but if you had an original, with the amoled, then there IS a noticeable difference. not much they can do about it. but they will have to deal with angry customers.

Maybe this is a dumb question but where does it say, or best way to tell which screen I did get on mine? I got mine last week after they came back in stock.

HTC IS NOT MAKING INCREDIBLE WITH SLCD RIGHT NOW.
They COULD in the future, but they are NOT right now.
They changed 2 other phones but are currently keeping AMOLED for Incredible.
this conversation is really getting insane UNTIL HTC decides to change the Incredible.

I do not know what I will do at this point, but either way I think Verizon has an obligation to customers who have purchased an Incredible with an AMOLED screen to let customers know if they get a replacement unit with an SLCD screen. As I pointed out before since this was a selling point of the phone, a replacement with an SLCD.

I am not sure this will be a help or not. I was one of the users that had to wait a month for my phone, I got it at the end of June and must say that I am very happy with the phone.
The screen was switch in manufacturing around August 1st to the SLCD screens, if you search the forums (especially the post about the long shipping delays) you will find the articles about the new screen and the comparisons. The decision was on of Verizon or HTC, but Samsung refusing to continue to supply the AMOLED screens to HTC because they were going to use them in their own phones. From the commercials that I have seen they are pushing it hard because I think that is the only selling point they have right now. The SLCD did have some advantages, but also some disadvantages. I think the color reproduction was one of them.
It was mentioned "reviews" had commented on the AMOLED screens when it was first released, that does not mean Verizon has to live up to those reviews. If you look through the materials on the website nowhere does it mention the screen type. It may have been changed after the announcement of the new screen. I am sure that some of the customer service reps know the screen changed, because when I was checking the status of my phone back in June, they told me very clearly the screen was being changed.
Now here is a suggestion for you about what to do with your phone. You could ask them to send you another replacement. Yes it will be one that has gone through the refurbish process most likely, but there is a chance you will get one with a AMOLED screen. The screen on these things are one of the more expensive pieces to replace, and unless the screen had damage or was not working it would not necessarily be replaced during the refurbish process. So there is a chance you could get one with the AMOLED.
Good Luck
