Last night there was an update on my HTC incredible. Now my phone doesn't recognize my SD card and when I plug my phone into the computer and try to access the disk storage no files for the phone or the card appear.

I would like to suggest that you try using the preferred method of the hard reset on
your device. I have provided a link for you with the steps that will assist you in
performing the reset. A tip for added protection of your important information: Remove
your SD card.

Thanks for the link but it turns out I didn't need it. A friend suggested turning the phone off then back on. It worked! My phone recognizes my SD card again, and the f,g, and h files appear when I plug into the computer. The only problem is the HTC PDF viewer is still missing. Any suggestions for getting it back? I can't find it on the HTC web site. Its not in the market place and not hidden anywhere on my phone. The viewer and its shortcut were wiped out in the last update. Thanks for the help.

Mine is listed as Adobe Reader. I am thinking it may be what you are looking for.

Well, the update might explain why my phone is now an expensive paperweight. I turned it off last night, put it on the charger, turned it on this morning, had no choice but to select "recover" after the phone went through several file checking sequences, and now I have a black screen with the image of the Incredible in the middle and a red triangle over the image with a red exclamation mark in the middle of the triangle. I cannot turn the phone off, plugging it into the computer does nothing (literally), and the keys don't work. Great. Suggestions?

Try what I posted a month ago.
I found this. Lets see if it works first.
Sometimes services and apps you install on your HTC Droid Incredible can interfere with its functionality. If you’ve reached a point where the phone freezes at startup or malfunctions in a way that you can’t remove the problem, Safe Mode is the answer. Booting in Safe Mode will load only software and drivers from factory defaults. This should allow you access to remove whatever ails your smartphone.
1. Turn the device off. If the power button doesn’t do the trick, remove and replace the battery.
2. Power the device on.
3. When the logo appears, press and hold the Menu button.
4. Continue holding the Menu button until you see the home screen.
The words Safe Mode should appear in the lower left corner if you performed the steps correctly.
If this works, I would start deleting apps, newest download first.
