Insurance plan

I bought the Droid X a few days ago and did not opt for the insurance plan. Now I am re-thinking my decision and may go with it. Do most of you have the insurance plan? Is this something I can always add or is there a time frame?

Also what does it cost?

Is there a deductible?

Does it extend the manufactures warranty to 2yrs?

I have, on two occasions that I can think of, added the insurance after the fact, so I don't know of a time frame for  getting the insurance. But with the outright purchase price of the X being $569.00 (trust me, I know...) and the replacement deductible being $89.00, I mean, really, what are you waiting for?....:smileyhappy:

Oops. I believe I'm paying $7.99 a month for the insurance and the deductible is the smartphone deductible rate of $89.00. I don't think it actually extends the manufacturer warranty. Others may know and can elaborate or correct me if I'm wrong

I just searched Verizons website and found the cost. I see there are two plans.

Total Equipment Coverage at $7.99 per month.

And

Asurion Wireless Phone Protection at $6 per month.

Which one would I need to get?

The $6 plan covers damage/theft/loss of the phone.  The $7.99 covers the same as well as extends the warranty an extra year making it a 2 year warranty.  With the TEC plan you can have the phone replaced in the store if you have a warranty issue after the 1 year manufacturer warranty.

I've had the TEC on all my smart phones.  Some insurance agents offer smart phone insurance in the range of $25-40 per year for a $600 phone.  But those are few and far between, it's worth calling around if you are interested.

That's good to know about the warranty extension as well.

Good question.

I've never looked at buyjng directly from Asurion.

While it may be a little cheaper directly, it's worth it to me to have it on my phone bill.

I have the Asurion Plan and it too is added to my phone bill. The only difference between the two plans is the equipment plan does extend the warranty by one year. Other than that, both of them are identical as far as coverage goes.

Some people sleep better knowing they have insurance. Peace of mind, you know.

Myself, I'm a gambler.  I've had cell phones since the early  to mid '90's.  I've never bought insurance, so I guess after 15 years, I'm ahead.  Even If, I have to pay "full pop" for a replacement phone.

To each his own.  Only you can make the decision.

Best of luck,

On a phone like the droid x I would say YES get the insurance and have peace of mind, I just dipped my droid X in a container on used motor oil, luckily the phone survived but I dont know for how long. I was stressing that I did not have insurance. I checked my bill and a sigh of relief. I have it! Its 90 dollars for a replacement. My phone works except the outside speaker is a little low. Ill wait to see if it can last me over the holidays if not , insurance claim. I do not see myself paying 500 dllrs for another phone..
