Is anyone else having majors problems with latest update?!?

I love my Droid X and have never had problems with it until now.  My phone had been pestering me about the update so I finally let it.  Then I didn't like the look of the main screen, but I liked the index down the side of the contacts and the new keyboard when texting (except the smiley face was missing).  But then I started noticing problems, I can't move my contacts to groups and I can't take pictures.  I have a constant notification that says 'Blank SD card SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem" and when I try to take a picture I get a message that says "Please insert sd card before using the camera".  Is there any way to remove the update without erasing everything on my phone?  I'm really not happy with Verizon giving us an update with these kinds of problems.  I want a new update asap that undoes the last one.

This sounds like you have a corrupted SD Card ...  You COULD try reformatting it from the Power-up Menu process ...   Your Contacts are already backed up via either Google or Backup Assistant - whichever you were using .. But of course you WILL losing everything else on the card .. including an Free Apps you installed.  so you probably should gon online into Market and write down the list of APPS you have installed before doing a reformat, or a (gulp) Factory reset (which you should also tell it to reformat the SD card when it does that).

good luck.

Sorry, you can't go backwards. However, it appears that you might have a bad SD card. If your computer can read cards, check it out. If not, go to your VZ store and have them check out your SD card. If your card is bad, that is what might be causing you all your headaches.

The store will DO NOTHING for you if you are getting a message saying your SD card is having problems, so don't even go there as they will pretty much tell you that you are out of luck - VZW's official stance on the SD card issue is that it is not their problem. You're better off going and buying your very own SD card, althoug these will have problems also

I started having problems with my SD card when the GB update came out back in August....the original SD card the phone came with completely corrupted, I bought a new card of my very own (since both 800 support and the VZW pretty much told me I was out of luck and laughed me out the door), which had problems as well, getting a message in both late August and mid-Sept that the card had problems and to reformat it. I seriously believe the phone itself, if not the update, is causing problems with the SD card. SD cards don't have problems like this....yes they fail just like anything else, but to have had one card go corrupt and another one give a damaged message all within a months time? Sorry that's not the cards....

Whomever you spoke with about your SD card issues was incorrect. I've seen numerous Verizon employees post on here saying SD cards are covered under warranty with Verizon.

I've never had a problem with my phone before and why would my SD card suddenly become corrupted at exactly the same time I updated my phone?!?  I do have my contacts backed up but I don't have the adorable pictures of my grand children and new great-grandchild backed up.  Who can give those back to me?  I tried reading the sd card with my laptop and it also says it needs to be formated.  I am very upset.  I would like to tell Verizon what they can do with this update!  I have replaced the sd card and can now take pictures, I only put a 2 gb in it this time in case it happens again.  :smileysad:

Since update on 10/3 my Droid X drains charge completely in a little over 2 hours UNUSED. Verizon Store ran battery test and it is fine.  She said she has 8 similar issue since update yesterday and I need to wait until Verizon sends a new update whenever that is! Called Verizon service rep and he had me load Advanced Task Killer even though I have few apps and never had a problem until update.  He also says these problems are just coming to light and I have to wait until Verizon issues another update, again, whenever that is.  Now I cannot be away from a charger for more than 2 hours or I am completely out of service.  Why put out an update that has these many serious problems?  When will update be available?  Will I get a credit for downtime due to terrible update.? Isn't anyone telling customer service anything?  This is unacceptable!!!

Having the same problem with my battery: drains in less than 3 hours. I know the battery is old but I bought several new ones and it's doing the same to them. When I got the update I left all my settings the same as before and I've never had a problem like this. According to the battery manager 45-60% of the energy is going to the display (timesout @ 15sec & 35% brightness), 20-30% idle, and almost nothing else is running except for a couple of system applications. If the battery manager shows that no applications are draining the battery then how is this possible? I had to turn off all background data to keep it from draining. Airplane mode also saves the battery but what's the point of having a smartphone under these circumstances? THIS is not a solution, just a bandaid on a severed artery!

@ Kantrisha:

I would give Cody's suggestion a try an if you haven't ever done a Factory Reset you might give this a try as well an see if helps your situation. Good luck.

One more thing i would try is an Extended battery if you havent ever got one an a tip if you get one. charge the battery with the charger that came with the phone in the box an charge it. When charging the battery Turn your phone off fully charge it let it go an hour over it won't hurt it i've done it on mine. then once you turn it on Run the battery all the way down untill the red charge the battery led starts flashing then re-charge it again. Repeat this process an your battery should last alittle longer. Mine has lasted as far as 2 days since i bought my new batry.

since update have had to reboot  - by battery pull - to get my emai and texts. Whats up with this. Only had to pull batterey every now and then before this update. On a positive note - after update - a message that was stuck in my "outbox" for 2 months was sent - cause for some confusion for the reciepent but at least it was sent.

I gave in to the update this morning at 8am and have been unable to use my phone for the past 3.5 hours.  I had to pull the battery for the first time since I got the phone.  It is still locked up on the homescreen now.  I don't know what to do.  Any suggestions?

What do you mean "locked on homescreen" ?? The screen you SWIPE to Unlock? or have you at least been able to unlock to the main screen?

Sometimes it is the swipe to unlock screen but but most of the time it is just stuck on the main screen that has my clock widget.  It won't allow me to go to the left or right home screens at all.  Or the top pulldown either.

Does it have the same issue when you tun in SAFE MODE?

- Power off

- Press & hold the Menu button

- Power up (but continue to hold Menu button)

Phone comes up in SAFE MODE in lower left corner..

Running in this mode, does the problem still exist?  It almost sounds like you have a Widget or APP that is sucking the life out of the CPU.

To get out of Safe Mode, power up as usual ...

next step would be to do the "CLEAR CACHE" procedure - the one you do from the Power up process.

Sorry for the delay, I was on the phone with Verizon tech support for over an hour.  They were unable to help me.  I got it to work by taking out the memory card but it was still a little slow.  They had me put it back in and it froze again.  I tried what you said and booted up in safe mode but it still is freezing.  The tech support wants me to do a factory data reset but I want to back up my contacts to my sd card first.  It is not working though.  It keeps freezing when I try.  I think I am going to have to go to verizon to have them copy them.  This is a nightmare.  I'm trying to work at the same time.
