A salesperson at a Verizon store said the Charge would not get Gingerbread. I'm not sure if she knew what she was talking about, but I guess nobody guaranteed it would happen.

Who cares? If it does get 2.3 from VZW, then it will be a big bloated waste of time anyway. We should have plenty of ROMs sporting Gingerbread by the time the Charge gets a stock update (if ever).
The only thing I want to hear from VZW/Samsung on updates is an update for is 3G-Only data connectivity. See other threads on this. Given the history of slow VZW/Samsung updates, we need to prioritize!

THere will be no 2.3 update for current mobile devices. There specific devices compatible includign CHarge will recieve the customized 2.4 (icecream) os update later in 2011 if all goes as planned. THis will offer enhanced UI, dual camera support, and system integration. THey gave no specific dates.

yeah, I'm not so sure about that. There was speculation that the Nexus phones would be the only ones to have 2.3.x and others would skip to 2.4 (which would also still be Gingerbread) but it's just that, speculation. And oddly enough, I present you the image below.

Some kind of proof to what you are claiming, please. Otherwise it is yet another unsubstantiated rumor.

Although I fully believe that the Tbolt will get Gingerbread (officially) before the Droid Charge.

I'll have to sadly agree with you, with Samsungs history of slow updates for the Fascinate. The Charge is still one sweet phone, as is the Fascinate.

2.3 was a buggy mess. Lacks enough features and stability to warrent the change.
Samsung already covered it at there tech show that upcomign phones and current phones that will support it (specifically stated charge and another upcoming model) will nto recieve the 2.3 update as there is no reason to do so, and that 2.4 will be the OS change when it is finalized. Samsung customizes UI's further which will delay it.
I use the 2.4 icecream DV tools and I can see why they are skipping 2.3 as it really has no benifits to newer devices. I am glad to have got off the 2.3 kick since it was riddled wth issues. Froyo is far more stable and scalable,2.3 is not very phone friendly in may aspects. 2.4 is the mobile phone replacement worth changing to. Just have to wait, it's current alpha nad beta builds are in the early device tweaking stages.

What I should say is, It's goign to be more user friendly.
2.4 will optimzie app launching, over riding, what can and can not launch, what shuts down in backgrounds and Self freezes. Customixed UI, and tools for hoem users to customize there samsung devices with ease while connected to the PC. It will be a samsung released update and download for Verizon users. No date was set it was very general.
