It fails every time it tries to do it or it says the network is not available, so why do I need it if it don't work? I have my contacts backed up somewhere else anyway.
Thanks in advance for any and all information/help.

Figured out what I was doing wrong.....
Backup Assistance has a number of know issues and usually doesnt work, to disable goto Settings/ Applications/ Manage Applications/ All tab/Sync Services/ Clear Data/ Force Close
Go to Sync Services not Backup Assistance and clear data there.... Please let me know if this works for you....

This should remove log on information from app and it wont reactivate until you open app again and log in.

I followed your directions, but when I tap "Force Stop" it doesn't do anything. It just goes to red and I can tap it a number of times and it just reacts the same. There's an older version on the phone too and I can't uninstall it.

Actually the force close isnt required but I just have a habit of closing app after clearing data, if you was able to clear data the app should not be logged in after you reboot, when you open app it should ask for password information which mean its not gong to work anymore until you log in... If this dont work hard reset and not log in works, but I know thats extreme.
Now ask for uninstalling, this isnt possible because it is a preinstalled app and cant be removed.
