Is there a way to not have new text message pop up on bottom of screen?

This may seem silly, but when a new text comes in, the message automatically shows up on the bottom of the screen. I don't mind for myself, but if someone else was using my phone, I don't know if I'd want them to be able to read my text immediately as it comes in....

Also, is there a way to not have a person's Facebook status show up when they call me?

You are able to disable the text message notification. I have included a link to the user guide. If you scroll to page 74, it will list the instructions on how to do so under received messages.

The only way not to have a person's Facebook status show up on a call is to not have your Facebook Friends synced with your contacts on your phone.
