Issues After Gingerbread Software Update

I realize both of thes problems have been posted by others, but it is so ridiculous that I feel a need to restate them.
After "upgrading" from Froyo to Gingerbread (who comes up with these names???) I have two issues:
1) WhenI turn off the phone it turns itself back on in a couple of minutes. After turning it off again, it stays off until restarted.
2) There is no LED notificatin of missed calls - even with a third party app (Easy Reminder).
Are you folks addressing these issues? Thanks.

Ok I went without saying it but I cant hold it anymore... This is why I hard Reset before updates.... Issues are coming from settings and apps that was Froyo compatible that isn't GB compatible... A number of users have hard reset and resolved these issues reported...
It is easier to follow this pattern when updating OS than spending weeks blaming the update, the update isnt perfect but I wipe all the time before updating and dont notice the issues users are having.. Please give it a try and stop having Verizon replace device for a issue you can probably resolve yourself, others have went to store and had their issue resolved by the tech hard resetting device, save yourself the gas and headache...
Hard Reset... Also disable auto restore option..
Hope this helps.

MOTO is CLEARLY aware of these (and other) issues. No word yet as to any "fix" coming though. They've been pretty silent about the "next step"; unfortunately. If history is any sign of things to come, we went through this with FROYO. It took about 2+ months before a software update with FIXES was released. crosses fingers.

And now, one day later, things are MUCH worse. Turned on the phone this morning and there is a major lag when trying to do almost anything. Press a key and the applet loads, then 5-10 second delayes after touching anything before the action occurs. This is absolutely unacceptable!!!

Android is naming their operating systems in alphabetical order using deserts.
- C = Cupcake
- D = Donut
- E = Eclair
- F = Froyo (short for Frozen Yougert
- G = Gingerbread
- H = Honeycomb
- I = Ice cream Sandwich
- J = ???? (Jello?)

Yeah well, from my perspective less time spent on "cute" and more time spent on substance (ie, releases that help rather than hinder) would be welcome.

@ADG -- what specifically are you running on your phone at initial boot-up? e.g., BEFORE you start launching anything.
- Did you install any WIDGETS that are auto-updating? (I know for a fact that the FACEBOOK widget introduces "lag" when swiping to unlock. I had that issue, removed the Widget, very snappy again.)
- Have you done the "CLEAR/WIPE CACHE" procedure?

Actually, today it's operating much more smoothly - almost (ALMOST) normally - except for the restart after shutdown and lack of missed call notification. The only widget at boot is the Digital Clock Widget and that's been installed since day one. I've also read all of the relevant posts on this and other forums regarding the various issues introduced with Gingerbread and what does and doesn't help. I'm a fairly technical guy (I'm involved with multiple tech support forums on the web) and realize not much is going to happen until a bug fix is released. I truly appreciate your response and attempt to help, but I guess I'm venting more than anything else .

OK, just trying to help.. for the record, mine is not buggy at all. I have NOT had to do the Factory Reset, although I've donw the WIPE CACHE. I also have a pretty technical background and as such have some good troubleshooting skills. Hopefully we'll see the FIX UPDATE in the next month. Good luck.
edit: I DO have the auto-reboot after Power Off issue going on ... But it is intermittent and more of an annoyance. Happens about every other day for me. But an issue that does not warrant me going through a Factory Reset (or re-flash of my phone at VZN's suggestion) since people that have done this STILL see that issue.

And I agree - not going to do a reset. BTW, after clearing the cache I noticed that now all hard buttons "wake" the screen. Previously only the power button did that. Is there a simple way of disabling all but the power button from waking the screen? Thanks again.

Only the HOME button wakes mine ... (as well as the power button of course).

Previously ONLY the power button woke mine, now they all do. Again, only after the cache wipe. Strange. Okay, I can live with it I guess. Thanks for the prompt response.

Thanks community for all of your responses!
ADG, are you still having this issue with all buttons waking up the screen? I have not seen this as a reported issue after the new software update. As previous users stated, only the power button should wakeup the screen. I would suggest pulling the battery and clearing cache again since that's when it started. If you are still having issues please let us know.

I understand why you wouldn't want to do a hard reset before each software update. We only recommend doing a hard reset if you are having issues after the update. I agree when you update service packs on a computer you don't need to completely format the computer. This was a major update with many changes, and would be more similar to upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP. If you are still having these issues after that, we can replace the device through warranty.

Actually the upgrade would be from XP to Vista, not the reverse. And Microsoft does offer direct upgrade paths from one OS to the next that do not require reformatting.
As for replacing the device under warranty, let me tell you the problem with that. My wife got a Droid-X at Christmas. 31 days later it started rebooting and I spoke with VZW support who said that because it was one day past new unit replacement, I'd be sent a refurbished unit. I argued to no avail. Three weeks later (and three replacement phones later) I was permitted to escallate the issue to someone who was authorized to provide a NEW phone. So far, so good.
Anyway, I appreciate the responses and look forward to a resolution in the form of an interim release (bug fix, if you will) sometime in the near future.

I also meant to mention that Advanced SD Card manager app no longer works.

Hello Cody 21,
Thank you for your suggestion. I'm happy to hear you are not experiencing multiple opportunities with your device. The reboot after the power off is being investigated to provide a permanent solution. We appreciate your patience. Thank you.

I have a huge problem with this update. Immediately after downloading and installing, the OS sucks down battery at an unbelievable rate. I also noticed that the phone is hot as in temperature not the cool hot. I have reset all the battery management I could; I even set it to max battery save and the battery dies in a couple of hours. I have a task killer and set that at it's max setting also with no success. Before the update I could talk on the phone for four or five hours, run apps, and use the web and still have half the battery at the end of the day. What is going on with this thing?????

Since the upgrade, my phone hasn't been terrible. I experienced the warmness around the speaker area for several days then it stopped heating up. I miss the frequently called feature in contacts as well as the battery icon when charging in the battery manager app.
The new Motoblur Social Widget, is very sensitive and sometimes repeats posts I've already viewed when I go back in later to see new posts. I like the look of the new Social Widget a LOT better, but it's definitely buggy.
When rotating the phone in text mode, it takes about 3 - 5 seconds to rotate, totally unacceptable when on Froyo the screen rotated instantly. I use Go SMS Pro as my default texting tool, since the stock one is featureless.
For a bout 2 weeks, the phone would not bring up Twitter in the browser, at all. I reset the phone, did a cache reset and ultimate a factory reset. About a week after the master reset, twitter started working in my browser and has sense.
I don't have a lot of apps installed (maybe 15 - 20 ) an my phone isn't rooted. I hope Motorola and Verizon issue an update patch to address these concerns and some of the other concerns I read about. I love my phone and want it to work like it did on Froyo. My phone hasn't randomly reset or frozen up since the update (or before for that matter).
I've noticed that when the phone is in the night dock, the 4 hardware buttons remain brightly lit all night long. Fortunately it doesn't bother me. Inexplicably, one night recently, the illumination ceased about 5 seconds after I placed the phone in the night dock, which is what it did on Froyo. Then, the next night, back to being illuminated all night long. I personally like the brighter buttons for daily use, but can see how it can be very annoying for some people when they stay brightly lit all night long.
My contact list is organized differently than before. For me, it doesn't work to my advantage. Froyo featured several groupings, including, All Contacts, Gmail Contacts, Facebook Contacts, etc. Now there's only 2 groupings......not an improvement. I would like to be able to categorize my contacts according to work and personal. That would be very handy since I use my phone for work and personal use.
Battery life for me, has been decent since the upgrade. The first day or two, it used a lot of juice, but since then, I can get through a day easily.
The camera works better now, taking sharper pictures thanks to the continuous focus and the camera seems quite a bit speedier.
Please issue an update that will make the phone more functional. The update addressing the issues after Froyo was excellent. My phone ran smoothly and competently.
