Issues with Camera and Camcorder....

I have had my Droid 2 for less than a week and have been having quite annoying issues with the camera and the camcorder and both will occur at the same time. I will take pictures and they will just show up as gray boxes and not my actual picture or the picture will show up in my gallery but the phone acts as if it is not there. When I click on the picture to enlarge it, it becomes just a black screen. Again if I try to scroll through my pictures it acts as if this most recent picture is not there and will no let the screen scroll any farther.

The issue with the camcorder is I open it up and it loads fine but when I click on the red button on the screen to start recording the camcorder just shuts off and goes back to my home page. The same thing happens when I try to press the camera button to start recording. Both of the issues occur at the same time and the only way to fix the issues is to turn the phone off and then back on again. I have already had to turn it off and back on again 3 times since I got the phone on Thursday September 23rd.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It might be worth going to the verizon store and have the techs look at it. Especially if you can repeat the problem in front of them.

Also have you verified the sd card is installed in the phone?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I have not verified that the card is installed properly. I would think that it is in correctly right from the factory. I also read that the camera wont function if the SD card is not installed. I think going to the store might be a good idea at this point because having problems like this with a phone that is not even a week old is crazy. I will wait to see what other people say though.

I do apologize for your device not functioning properly. I can understand how frustrating that can be. Do a factory reset on the device. The factory reset should correct the camera and camcorder issues. I have provided the steps for the factory reset below. Before doing the factory reset I would recommend for you to back up your contacts and information. Make sure that you remove the SD card before doing the factory reset.

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Privacy.
Touch Factory Data Reset.
Touch Reset Phone.
If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
Touch Erase Everything.

I have provided a link for additional information. Click here http://search.vzw.com/?do=viewdoc&id=31308

I can verify this problem. It happened yesterday taking pics and it wouldn't save them. The pics would show up as an empty(no Kbps) grey icon so I did a battery pull and restarted fixed that but,,, in addition to this I have been experiencing screen lockups where I type in a search on Google and everything locks up for about 15-20 seconds then all of a sudden the words appear as if the CPU was maxed out and then recovered. I got a force close message and I reported it. I got impressed when I got a reinstall update from Google seconds later after I reported it. It isn't locking up anymore for now but this has my attention and I am watching it. All the problems aren't solved yet.  I do have static on phone calls and this is a replacement phone 2weeks old. Note that I don't use Task Killers anymore. About to do a reset if one more thing happens.

If having static on the device while on a call you would need to try a factory reset but make sure you remove your SD card to keep your data saved.  You can follow this link  http://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51160/kw/factory%2Breset%2Bsteps/...

to get the instructions on performing the factory reset.

Hope this Helps

i am still having problems.  and my system logs are telling me there are system errors but different error code, occuring right after resetting phone.    im not any further figuring out the problem than yesterday. display laggs and is slow, battery is lots better, only 30% used since 10am today. this camera still frustrates me. its almost like someone took all the performance out of the software to make it a barely functioning camera. focus too slow. it takes severa attemtps pushing the shutter release half way in order to get focus. as far as the phone saving to sdcard that part has been repaired. just takes too long to get the focus to work.!!!!

took some more pics while pushing the twitchy shutter button activates the lens focusing, then beeps befor going into focus, then i see it in focus, then moves out of focus just befor the shutter release. photos results are out of focus,,,,,, i have been able to reproduce picturs at the same distance and subject lighting in this way. Also The camera is produceing pics with  horizontal lines and grainyness on the right side from top to bottom of the pics. I think sometimes the flash is unsyncronizd as the result is over brighted pics. the camera settings are too simple to screw up so its a point and shoot.,,,,,,,,,,, I have done batt pulls, restarting. im done. takin it to get replaced in the morning

I would be interested knowing if returning your phone to factory settings helped the problem you are having with the Camera and Camcordor.  I am having the same issue with my phone.  I've lost several pics.
