Issues with Corporate Account/Microsoft Exchange

Has anyone had any issues setting up their corporate email accounts on the Droid X? I spent at least an hour with both Verizon and Motorola support and had no luck successfully setting up my Exchange account on the phone; we consistently get a message saying the phone cannot connect to the server even though we have data service on the device and we can connect to the Exchange Server's web portal on the phone's browser without issue. I know of at least 3 different Android phones and at least 3 iPhones that are also set up for our Exchange server and they have no issues what so ever. I have read briefly over in Motorola's forums of other users having the same problem. This is a bit frustrating as I need to be able to use my phone with my Exchange account; otherwise I am going to have to return the phone.

You must enable Active Synch on your exchange account. It's an account by account thing, so other people being able to connect with android devices doesn't mean your account is enabled for Active Sync.

I have had the same problem. I have wasted all day and spent hours with tech support and my IT person trying to get the Corporate Account/Microsoft Exchange to work. The commercial says "Droid Does" I say "Droid Does NOT" Even the tech support could not figure it out. I guess I will have to go back to Blackberry or switch to AT&T and get an iphone. I wonder if I could submit the bill I will receive from my IT person to verizon to get reimbursed? (I know, that is only dreaming!)

You need me as your "IT Guy" then. when I run across issues like this with my clients I consider it a learning opportunity and would never charge them hours of time when i did not know what i was doing. I am the admin of my Exchange 2010 server and i had this issue when setting my account up at the store so i walked outside opened my laptop and aircard checked the Exchange logs found it was throwing an error "access denied" and did the fix below.
Check Exchange logs!!! More than likely if you are running Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 you will need to check the "Inherit Permissions" checkbox for your user account.
Open Active Directory Users and Computers, on the View menu, click Advanced Features to access the Security tab for each object. Right click your user account then click properties on the Security tab click Advanced and click Inherit Permissions.
Always check the obvious "Active Sync enable on your user account" but that’s to simple and if that was it you probably would not have posted a question.

BECO,
We are using Exchange 2003 and the settings you mentioned were already enabled by default.

We have Exchange 2003. Do you think that is the issue?

From the discussion going on at Motorola's forums (where I have also posted) the issue comes down to something Motorola did in regards to the Corporate Account and how it connects to a server running Exchange 2003. If the Exchange server is not utilizing an SSL certificate the phone will not connect to it even if you do not have the SSL option checked when initially attempting to setup the account. So, at this point this is something that Motorola needs to fix.

I recently got the Droid X and set up an Exchange account on it fairly easily, and wish i hadn't! It installed a password on my phone that required 8 digits with a 20 minute refresh which required that I re-enter the dang thing! I called my corporate IT, and they said that that requirement didn't come from them and that in fact I had been removed from any security requirements. When I tried to change the 20 minute thing to an hour on the phone, a message came up that said my remote administrator, whoever that it, required the 20 minute re-entering of the password. When I talked to a techie at Verizon they said there was nothing they could do about it. So I ended up removing the Exchange account from my phone, and guess what--the password didn't go away! We tried a soft re-boot, removed of the battery, etc. Finally we had to hard-reboot the device (and lost all my data) to get rid of that password! Any suggestions?

Try using Touchdown by NitroDesk.
I have been using it for months with no issues (other than an emtpy email showing up in my work email once in a great while.
Yes it is pricey ($19.99) compared to other Android Apps, but it simply works. It also has a great wizard that sets itself up within a minute or two.
It works through OWA. And it works well. they also really want you to use the 30 day trial to make sure that it will work with your companies Exchange server.
No I am not employed by NitroDesk, just a happy user.
