Issues with my 2.2 Update

During my lunch break this afternoon I received a message on my phone to do the 2.2 update...so I did (I'm in NC). Now my system is crashed. Stuck on the M screen.

After talking with Verizon, the only solution they can offer is a refurbished phone. Which is {word filter avoidance}. They broke the **bleep** thing with their download...I would expect a new phone not a refurbished one that could have all kinds of issues. I have had my phone for almost a year with no issues. So this really {word filter avoidance} me off.

My husband is going to call back this afternoon once he gets out of a meeting. I affectionately call him Mr. Weber, when I need a response from an un-responsive customer service department. He can usually get it and then some.

Hopefully I will hear something by this evening, but none of this fixes the fact that I do not have a phone until something is done. Plus my cell is my only number, do not have a home phone, I carry the **bleep** thing everywhere.

If anyone else had experienced this please reply and let me know your outcome. Thanks!

Just updated my phone, lousy signal & 3G now, dropped calls. Never had this with 2.1. Guess Verizon is trying to emulate AT&T / IPhone.

Same issue here. Received a request to update my phone, which I accepted.  Phone has been stuck on the M screen for the past two hours. Will be going to a Verizon store later this afternoon.

Got my upgrade notification today and upgraded about an hour ago.  First I had duplicate icons for a bunch of apps.  Turned phone off and back on, and those went away.  Tried to do something with one of the apps and the phone froze up.  Wouldn't move from the page, wouldn't turn off, nothing - so I removed the battery and put it back in, restarted, and everything was fine.  Went to check my calendar and all my calendar events are gone!  If this is a taste of the upgrade, I want to go back to 2.1!  Maybe Mr. Weber can speak for all of us. :smileyhappy:

Your better off going to a local store in order to get a "new" replacement versus a refurb.  I would call the store 1st to see if they actually have any in stock.  Also, be sure its a corporate store and not just a reseller, they can't do much and generally have to refer you to a corporate store.  good luck

It's been said on other forums that the boot time during the new update is quite long, so if it seems like it froze could be in fact it's installing and syncing up whatever was on the phone before. The last phrase was just a hunch on my part.

I did a manual update on mine and the install time and boot time was fairly lengthy. I didn't really check how long it took, but I think it was long enough for me to actually make myself something to eat, finish it and clean the dishes.

Aside from some lag issues when closing certain apps, I've had no problems with my phone.

Its been 5 hours with the M screen.  I've tried resetting it only to be stuck at the M screen over and over.  I HIGHLY doubt that it's updating and syncing that long.  30 minutes to an hour I can understand, but 5 hours? Come on now.

My wifes phone was stuck on the m screen we just took it in on her lunch hour and they have a software patch (FIX) for it takes about 30 min to fix. When my wife called verizon they gave her the two options of either taking to a authorized store (Which we did) or yes wait for a phone thru the mail which he said could take a few weeks.

I just did my download and it worked great only took about 10 to 15 min OTA. Good Luck.

My now likes to decide when it feels like either shutting off or restarting.

So just left my corporate store. My phone is dead. Sometimes they can re-boot it so it is always good to check a corporate store. If they would have had one in stock I could have gotten one today, but they are out-of-stock in most stores. We had called Tech. Support and since it was before 2:00pm EST a refurbished phone was shipped today, but I will not get it until Friday.

The only reason I know that is b/c the lady that helped us out in the corporate store could see the tracking number. It was never sent to us, the customer...{word filter avoidance}
? Anyhow, since Verizon does not do loaner phones and I am a new customer without an old phone, I'm without a phone until Friday after I get off work.

Plus it is a refurb!!!! If I break my phone and file an insurance claim for a new one, send me a refurb...my fault. But when you break my phone.....I expect a new one. I cannot say what this is without getting it moderated out. My husband is on the phone now with corporate, but I'm not sure what will come of it.

P.S. The store rep. told me that Verizon employees got an e-mail that they are pushing the update again at mid-night tonight. Supposedly they have fixed the glitch, but I would check with a corporate store rep. before pushing the upgrade.

They don't send you a new phone because 1) I don't think they have any new phones, and 2) the phone that broke was not a new phone. They are only liable for the depreciated value, ie., a used phone.

Okay I follow your logic and that makes sense, but not before Friday? I would have paid to have it overnighted. This is my only contact...no land line. All we keep hearing from corporate is "we don't do that". I'm sure when this contract is up we will be switching cell providers. Which is a same b/c I really like the Droid.

Okay it is the next day and here is what went on last night. After someone suggesting I try a corporate store I stopped by one on the way home from work. They tried to reboot my system, but could not. So we came home and called the corporate helpdesk. The CSR Manager was useless. The only response he had for anything was "Verizon does not do that" or "Verizon does not have a policy on that". He literally sounded like a recording and had us on hold for an infinite amount of time. Needless to say after 2 hours on the phone, I had no solution and no help.

As of now my phone is working, why? My hubby is an uber geek that works for one of  the larges computer companies in the world and knows Linux. Which is the operating system for this phone. I will not post details here b/c I do not know how this is monitored. But if you do not have a card reader for your SD card (a device that allows you to connect your SD card to a computer outside your phone) I suggest you go and get one.

The refurb. is in route to my house but I am going to call Verizon this morning and let them know I will just be sending it back. I also plan on sending a e-mail complaint to the corporate VPs, writing the BBB in the state where Verizon has its corporate headquarters and commenting on my experience on every social networking site possible.

Love my phone, actually am very happy with my  phone service coverage, price and 3G coverage...but the customer service was beyond horrible and that alone voids everything else. I now pray I do not have any other issues, b/c dealing with customer service at Verizon is a nightmare.

Stuck at the M logo for the past 2 hours after trying to install 2.2

I woke up around 7am this morning to discover a pop-up for System Update, clearly 2.2. I click Install Now and my phone shuts off. I get the M screen followed by the update screen, I see the progress bar escalating.

NOW HERE IS THE PROBLEM: When the bar got to about 1/5 in it shuts down my phone and starts the process all over. Every time it gets to that certain % on the progress bar it shuts down and starts over again.

So my question: Is this normal/how it's supposed to update? Should I leave it alone? Or is this some kind of error and I need to fix this issue.

It's possible that it could be a corrupt download.  For those having issues, did you download the OTA via 3G or wifi?

I'm almost positive it was 3G and now I'm stuck out of town without a phone. lol
