Just a Thought

I'm wondering...if a person has to return 2, 3, 4 or more phones because the same thing is happening to all these phones; could it be that it is not the phone, it is not any apps (although it might be), but the person him/herself doing something that is creating the problem? Pushing the wrong button, putting in the wrong setting, or some other mistake? Just wondering.

You will never get a customer to admit that.

It really depends on the device and what the issue is.

Sometimes people think if they return a device enough they can get something newer/better..which isn't the case

I am one of the best persons to say that is DEFINITELY possible. Gerio knows how a person can take offense to that suggestion, because I did when he suggested it me.

And to those who have gone through 2, 3, or 4 phones (3 in my situation) it may SEEM that it's not "something you are doing". And, the implication ISN'T that you ARE, or that you are doing something intentionally.

But, it is something that is common among all the phones.

In my situation, which I have yet to see repeated in any forum, the cause of three different X's constantly rebooting was my home router.

I used a router at work and wherever available and never had any issues, but for some reason, never noticed that it only rebooted at home (call it tunnel vision).

On a fluke, I used my 2nd replacement phone without wifi at home and finally determined that was the issue.

Even then, Verizon and Moto CSRs refused to believe that a router could do that, but in the same breath the Moto CSR told me to buy a different router.

Lesson being, you never know. For others with multiple phone issues:

Apps? Yes, that's possible. Were they diligent about installing fresh apps from the market on each replacement phone? Not apps saved on the SD, which is transferred from one phone to the next.

If they say they didn't install any apps, did they HONESTLY not install ANY apps, launchers, etc. and did they format the SD card before activating the replacement phones?

The SD card itself. There have been issues with SD cards. Why Verizon doesn't use a new SD card as a method of troubleshooting, instead of having the user transfer the same card from one phone to another, is beyond me. (I asked and was told I would have to buy a new one because they wouldn't).

The battery. Also transfered from old phone to replacement phone. Before anyone asks, "what could go wrong with a battery?", explain to me how it made sense that my router could make my phone reboot? Electronic devices are unpredictable.

I would even go so far as to suggest they create a new Google account, so contacts aren't automatically reloaded into the replacement phone (the same for email folders). Yes, that's really paranoid, but it was on my list of ideas before I figured out my problem.

I agree though, mortb, speaking from experiencing it first-hand. When issues continue to cross over from one phone to the next, everything is pointing to something else, besides the phones.

Those experiencing it will be FURIOUS to hear it. I was. But, calm down and think. There is an answer and it isn't "bad luck".

what was the make of the problem router?

The key being that the new router is an "N" router.

I should have replied to the post mortb is referring to, other than saying they should just throw in the hat and get a different phone, but I've been there and I was about to do just that. I think I will copy and paste it over there. Honestly, it was being so pisssed off at the time I was going through multiple phones that motivated me to keep troubleshooting................

This reminds me of a woman who is married 3 times and each time the husband dies by commiting suicide by drinking ethylene glycol. (anti-freeze) Oh yeah, and all 3 had life insurance polocies of $150,000+ with the wife as sole beneficiary.

What would you think?

Updating router firmware does not cause issue, the update is meant to resolve incompatibilties and resolve possible security bugs... I it isnt wise to overlook fireware updates.

ageed it's supposed to do all that but it's not supposed to make it unusable but i've known a few folks who had to get a new router after the firmware update and used to see it every once in a while on a computer forum, after it had been recommended to do the update.

i had issues way back on the same router, called linksys cs and when they couldn't fix the probem, recommended the firmware update.

i rebooted the router....no they hadn't mentioned that and the problem was fixed.
