I looked for a free program to replace the stock crappy email on the Droid and found this.
It can check every minute. It can mark all as read. It can do tons of things the stock email app doesnt like signatures.
So far it's fantastic - I've turned off the stock email app and am going to use this one and see how it goes. So far so good.

I've turned off the stock email app for a day now and used just K9.
It's fantastic. It's like having my blackberry again. It's a MUST download and use.
My mail is marked read like it's supposed to be and the feature set is great.
Why they couldn't do this with the stock mail app I don't know.

Does the use of that app require re-inputting the E-mail account properties? Or does it work upon download?

You have to re-enter all of the account information which is the one flaw since it's the same exact process.
I have 5 POP3 accounts I did - it didn't take that long and believe me when I say this email is so much better you will want it.
I turned off the email program that came with it completely.
This one has the Droid signature, blinks reddish pink which is cool if you use both emails, and has tons and tons of options.
And mark all read is killer. This one has cured all my issues.

SSHGuru,
OK, I just tried K9-Mail. You're right. It's great.
So, one question. I haven't figured out how to turn off the original email app. Or maybe I just need to delete the POP3 account in the original app?
I figure for now I'll still use the stock app for gmail, unless that's not needed either.
Thanks for any help.

What I did is change the settings for my emails from check ever 2 minutes to never. I left the Gmail account on.
That way I have K-9 getting all the important stuff and if they ever manage to update the other calander to work well all of my stuff is still there and I will change it back from never to 2 min again.
Also someone else may write a better email program (hopefully one that automatically pulls the accounts) so I want to keep it set up for that also.
But K-9 has been great. Works just like the Blackberry - get notification and open it - look and close it.... done. I still havent had time to explore all of the other functionality but there seems to be many options.
For example the signature "sent from my android" script I want to change to sent from my Droid.
Also since I have 5 POP 3 accounts having them pull email every minute was taxing my system so I changed the less important ones to 5 or 15 minutes and that completely fixed the problem.

Ahh, Thank you. I shall try that. I do like K-9. (set the LED to pink for notification)

Yeah I like the LED notifcation color as well... it's not pink but somewhere in that family... But anything is better than the standard green.
When I get some time I'll see what other options it has.

Help. I have tried twice to setup K9 to take the place of my Cox email with no success. I enter the exact same info into K9 that I use for Cox and select POP 3 as the mail type. It says it can't connect (normal email icon works great). I even deleted the Cox account from the normal mail and it still won't work. I would greatly appreciate someone giving me a step by step for entering the K9 info and how to disable the regula mail.
Thanks in advance.

No idea about COX.... when K-9 sets up it looks just like the setup that the Droid uses for the regular email - I almost think it's using the same routine so I don't know why you'd have a problem with it.
You could try a manual setup and enter the ports and stuff...
Or email the developer.
