Droid x was delivered on 9/1 to the door. Activated the phone with tons of retrys due to the keyboard double and triple typing a letter with just one touch. So we took it to the verizon store. The people at the store tried to type a message with no luck and said tht the phone was defective.
They said tht they would have to order us another phone and tht we would have to hold on to the original phone tht we have till the other one shows up. Which now has an arrival date of 9/17. I was ok with tht till they said tht it might be a referbished phone tht is delivered to us. I already paid full price for the defective phone. They say tht they have no choice of wht phone is delivered to me. So i told them tht we would like to get the incredible to see if my wife likes it better. They said great and they would wave the exchange fee but we would not be able to switch back over to the droid x if she didn't like the incredible. I told them tht would be unacceptable. They pretty much told me to bad and tht is the way things are.
I am very dissappointed with verizon right now. My new every 2 is up on the 19th and i'm not sure tht we will stay with them after this. I just wanted to share my problem with everyone so tht u know wht to expect if it happens to u when u get your phone.
Good luck.

I doubt if you will be getting a refurb. As new as the Droid X is, and as little time that it's been on the market, and as hard as it is to get,. Unfortunately, it is not Verizon to blame but the insurance carrier they use to insure these phones. If you read the pamphlet which came with the insurance packet, it specifically states that at their (the insurer) discretion, it could be a refurbished phone.
