Tried factory reset and that didn't help, now I'm getting a new one, hopefully this update isn't on it! Is anyone else having this problem are just me?!? Anyone have a solution incase my new phone has this stupid update on it as well?
As the other poster said, your replacement will have GB on it as well. They're also correct about the wallpaper resetting to the default Droid X wallpaper when updating, I believe. I think it also defaults it back to "Scroll" - which I hate (I think this is what you mean by the wallpaper splitting up on different screens?)
As for your screens lagging, and wallpaper splitting, that sounds like a widget. If you have any on, take them off. All they do is lag.
I'm so upset the new OS pushed to my phone while I was sleeping. The reason I have this phone is because the Froyo update screwed up my Fascinate which I loved. Now I have no choice I guess but either to put off installing it every hour or installing it. There should be a choice IMO. I wanted to wait and see what the bugs were for a good few months before I installed. Crap! I'm **bleep**! AGAIN. I've only had the phone a **bleep** week. Now I have to reset and reconfigure everything AGAIN?

Woah woah woah, you don't even HAVE the update, you don't know if there are going to be issues with yours. Calm down! There are tons of people who don't have the issues when they update to GB. I didn't, and I never did a factory reset.
Don't let all the negative posts on here scare you away from it. If anything, learn from them and be prepared to turn off settings such as vibrate/sound on keypress in your keyboard, any widgets you may have, screen animations, etc. As those seem to be what trigger some problems with GB.
How did my widgets and wallpaper work fine before the update and all {word filter avoidance} up after? Because it messed with the phone. I'm not trying to scare people - I'm asking for help to fix this thing since no one at verizon can - if you do not have helpful info then please do not reply
seriously!?! they're going to send me an old phone for my phone that's less then a year old?!? I feel sorry for the poor customer service rep that will be getting a tongue lashing from me when I get this "new" phone!

All the providers send out refurbished phones as replacements. If you had insurance, that is there policy.

Using profanity isn't really going to accomplish anything except negative responses..... The update has been blamed for a number of unrelated situations in my opinion, I sure hope you did not get this worked up when you updated your desktop from XP to Vista, when you install a updated OS the incompatibility part of the game is a known common item and getting upset does not really change that outcome.
I have received the update on both of my Droid X's and hasn't experience any issues with the devices, out of curiosity when you hard reset did you make sure to disable the auto restore option that will auto restore apps and settings after a reset because this has caused issues for some?

Main problem I have is every time I turn wifi on, after turning it off I lose the 3G data. Shows 3G just fine with 4 bars, but no internet connection ability. Have reset the phone twice. The only way to get around it reliably is to turn the phone off and then back on. Occassionally I can just turn airplane mode on and then off after a few seconds and it will work - but not every time. I've seen enough problems crop up on three Droid X's that we have that were not there before the update came out. I thought Verizon "checked" these things before they put it out... it sure takes them long enough to get an update out after the SDK for the OS has been released you would think the majority of the apparent bugs would be squashed.
My only, but HUGE problem is that my keyboard wont stay open. I can even be texting or on an app and typing something in and it will auto close while in the middle of typing and i bring it back up and same thing happens. it closes every couple letters, give or take. Also, most of the time I cant see what im typing! ... Anyone have any clues on how to fix this?
Have you tried using the SEARCH feature? Your issue has been reported & "helped" many times already. Just put "Keyboard" in the search box up above.
Give a holler if you can't find a thread with your issue and we'll point you to it.
ps - Welcome..

I understand you issues and I can agree that this can be frustrating at times but the one thing you seem to not take in consideration, there is thousands of 3td party apps floating around that can not be tested for compatibilities because Android is a open source platform which means developers are not locked into a single method of adding new features onto the device.. Have you tried clearing the system cache on device or entering Safe Mode?
Safe Mode:
Takes about 1-2 mins, but will eventually come up and say SAFE MODE or TURN ON WIFI in lower left corner. Test for a while. But avoid starting APPS you don't really need. If the problem is gone, you likely have a rogue APP or Widget causing your issue.
To get out of SAFE MODE, just power off/on as usual.
Clear Cache:
release power, but keep holding home until you see exclamation point with the Android.
The OS updates are usually tested on a clean stock version of Android that hasn't had a number of app create custom configuration files, I really wish Android would add a new command to the process to wipe device before updating because I really feel that this will cut our a large amount of confusion and issues.
Now lets make it clear I am not dismissing your problem and saying the update doesn't have its issues but until you exclude any possible items or apps it makes it a little hard to isolate a solution sometimes
thank you so much!!! I thought it was a problem with the update because it only started after that! but it seems to be working "perfect" again
I appreciate all of the posts on this thread including both the naive (which might include me) and the
helpful hints.
Here's where I stand. I downloaded the system update today. I do not have many purchased/free 3rd party apps at all
however I would note that the one app that I upgraded today was Lookout to Lookout Premium. I would have hoped that
that would not be a source of problems.
After update a) both my contacts and dialer icons say "application not installed," b) arrow at the bottom of the screen that would allow me to get to apps is missing on all screens, c) the very bottom of the screen is covered with what I guess are called widgets. They are only about half on the screen and half disappear below. This no doubt accounts for the missing arrow for apps as well as a missing garbage can in case I want to dispose of an icon.
After reading many of the posts I thought the Safe Mode and Clear Cache notes in this posting were a very reasonable way to start. I went into the Safe Mode instructions below. Powered down; tried to power up holding Menu and . . .
I now have an exclamation point inside of a triangle (for the last hour). I cannot power down nor can I power up.
So before trying this I was actually stuck without being able to make a phone call. That now looks like the least of it.
Now ...disaster.
Ideas about how to get out of this? Is there a chip that I should be taking out and reinstalling? Hopefully without losing everything -- are there options?
Thank you.

If you long press an app icon, a garbage can pops up on the top of the screen now to dispose of them. The "widgets" you're talking about on the bottom are apps and the first 3 can be changed to whatever you want (I put the 3 I use most - I found it handy) but the 4th one is always the app drawer icon.

Hope that clears things up a bit. It's all just the new look of GB
I understand you do not want to receive a CLNR (Certified Like New Replacement) however, if you need to get a replacement for a device that you have had more than 14 days, we will replace it for the manufacturer with a CLNR. In this case, it is Motorola.
Please see the Motorola Warranty
Hi everyone!
I'm glad to see such an active thread. Not so glad that Droid X users have been having issue with the Gingerbread update. I use a Droid X as a secondary phone and I've used it more since GB. I love the enhancements!
Google and device manufacturers are always looking to improve, tweak and iron out the Android operating system. Our product team has advised us that Motorola is working hard on getting the next software patch to the Droid X. Their dedicated software team works diligently to get the updates to the users as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience!
