Hit Menu, go to Wireless & Networks, Check off Airplane mode. Done. No wireless communication. The other alternative versus airplane mode if you want to connect to a wireless network is to uncheck the Mobile Network selection. Hope this helps.

Thanks budone and Fredneck for your contributions.
OP/
Good evening sbatzold,
Setting your phone to Airplane mode is an excellent suggestion but you can also disable data roaming to prevent data charges while you are in Canada by following these steps:
- Menu
- Settings
- Wireless & networks
- Mobile network (Set options for roaming, networks)
- Make sure Data roaming is disable
Disabling data roaming is also a great option incase you need to use your phone for phone calls but don’t want to incur additional charges for data given that Airplane mode disables all wireless connections. Incase you do decide to use your device feel free to visit the following link for Roaming Rates. Thanks for Ruling the Air with Verizon Wireless.
