Linking contacts together

I just recently updated my software on my Droid X. Everything is fine except I can't link my contacts together. Before I updated my software I was able to link my contact with their facebook contact, that way they would only appear in my contact list once instead of twice and have all their info from facebook under one general contact instead of two. If someone could help me that would be wonderful!

In gingerbread, contacts are combined with several different sources. If you open a contact, you will see where that contact originated from (Google contacts, Backup Assistant, and I am assuming Facebook would be included there too).

From there, you can delete the multiple contacts from the different sources. If you want just Facebook Contacts, then delete the Contacts from Google Contacts, Backup Assistant etc.

Also check your settings in Gmail (on the web). The default is that if you send an email, and it doesnt exist in Google Contacts, it will add the email address to your Google Contacts.

I found this happening when I upgraded to Gingerbread. I always had my contacts in Backup Assistant, but Android and Backup Assistant do not play nice with each other on Birthdays/Anniversaries. So I exported them out of Backup Assistant, imported them into Google contacts and then deleted them from Backup Assistant. No more doubles on Contacts.
