When I try to use a Live Wallpaper, other than the few that came with the Droid X, they will not 'stay' on the screen. They run until the Droid goes to 'sleep' and then the black & white Droid screen comes on. Am I missing a setting that allows the Live Wallpapers to run continuously?

Also are you connected to pc, if you have the mass storage option enabled it disables 3rd party Live Wallpapers because some cant install to unit because of clearance so they install on card. Mass Storage disconnects SD Card when mounted.

Make sure if you are using an Application Task Manager that it is not stopping the Live Wallpapers. The Task Manager will stop applications when the device goes to sleep. Just add the live wallpaper to the ignore list on the task manager to keep the process from being stopped.

Thats right, I cant believe I didnt think of that, even after I had it happen to me before... This sounds like the strongest possibility.
