Looked at HTC ERIS and MOTOROLA DROID at Verizon Store 11/4/09!!! I can't decide now!

OK, just thought I would tell you that the stores now have both the Eris and the Droid for you to play with. I love the feel and look of the Eris. Plus, it has 7 home screens. It seemed to be fine opening up web pages as far as speed too. Using the track ball to select parts of a web page was very easy as well. Plus the Eris uses the PINCH method to zoom in and out of a web page, like the IPHONE. I still think I'm sold on the Droid only for the new 2.0 software it has and the turn by turn navigation system too. That part was so cool in the store. I entered some coordinates, told it I would be "walking", it started by telling me where to go. Awesome! I've always wanted to use my BB STORM for a GPS, but I don't want to pay the monthly fee. The other thing that is different on the phones is the DROID has a flash and also does DVD-Quality video. The ERIS does NOT have a flash and I don't think it has the DVD quality video. By the way, the cameras on both phones seemed to be fairly fast as soon as you hit the button. The DROID might be a little faster tho.

One of the Verizon reps I spoke with today at the store said that some of them are going to a class today to learn about the DROID and the ERIS, so they'll be able to offer more insight into the differences later on today around 5pm. Why they waited until the very last minute to teach the employees about each of the phones, I don't know.

Anyway, just wanted to post this for all of you who are going to get one of these phones. Also, if you have any solid points on each of them, please continue and let us all know. THANKS!!!

The HTC Eris will more then likely get the 2.0 upgrade as HTC is already in the Sense UI/2.0 porting/testing for the Sprint Hero. Granted, it's not official for the Eris, but it is official for the Hero (which the Eris is based from).

So, if its Nav only that you like about the Droid, then keep that in mind.

However, I think the Droid has a better camera hands down.

Kenyu73,

Thanks for the info. I did call HTC right after I posted, and the girl I spoke with said esactly what you spoke of. She didn't have a date for the 2.0 upgrade date, but they are working on it which is good news. I am used to the BB Storm and it's running software, which is much improved now with version 5.0. I've never owned an Android device, but I'm very excited by what I've read about them. I know nothing of the apps for the Android phones either. As far as the social apps, do you know if the Eris makes it easy for Facebook or Twitter? From what it sounds like, the Droid has included FB on the phone.

(I like the fact that you said the camera is better on the phone. That's important to me as well.)

Thanks....

I'm torn as well; I have pre-ordered the Droid, and will probably stick with that. However, ALL the reports I have read said the Droid camera is crap. Haven't heard much about the Eris.

The Android market has around 10,000 apps, even more actually. However, HTC has a Twitter and Facebook widget that posts updates and a notification icon when there's new updates.

HTC has a youtube portal, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/htc?blend=1&ob=4

I prefer the Eris over the Droid as well.  I'm gonna hold out a few weeks to see if there is a Passion announcement.  If not, I'll pick the Eris up before Black Friday.   Plus, I always have 30 days to return the phone if I "don't like it".

Alright, I'll try to help as much as possible:

Verizon has been advertising the Droid, and for good reason, the specs on it are strikingly better than any other android phone right now.

-The Droid, has two processors, one for voice, and one for data.

-The Droid, has a large, beautiful 3.7" screen, larger than the leading competitors

-The Droid, comes with stock Android Eclair (2.0)

-The Droid, has a full QWERTY Keyboard.

-The Eris, has only one processor, using for Data and Voice

-The Eris, has a standard 3.2" Screen.

-The Eris, comes with Android 1.5 Firmware, but with the ever sexy HTC Sense UI.

-The Eris, has a great HTC Virtual Keyboard.

If you want the most bang for your buck, go for the Droid. At the end of the day you can always root it to obtain the HTC Sense UI (Shh, that's privvy!). If you want beautiful functionality, based around you and your life, go for the Eris.

And if you can't decide, take both and love it all.

I prefer Eris enterface.  It will get 2.0 soon.  It is a nicer looking phone.  As to the cameras most people think it is a software problem.  There are other camera apps supposedly a few that are much better with more features and make better use of the camera and the autofocus.
