Lost contacts

I just updated the my Motorola Droid to the 2.2 OS.  After doing so I some how lost the majority of my contacts which at one time were linked to my corporate email account.  I am no longer at that company and do not have access to that email account.  If I did not back up those contacts am I just {word filter avoidance}

Unless you also linked them to your gmail account, yeah, pretty much.
