Loud beeps, squeals, morse code, hacking?

In the middle of a conversation - loud beaps and squeals break out and stop the connection. Loud horn honks like a semi truck along with what absolutely sounds like morse code. Prob persisted into the next day. On the other end my GF could only here static. Could not call or receive. . ... As usual for me, I'm seeing nobody else mentioning this experience here. What happened? Did my line get hacked? Had to remove battery to reset phone and that cleared it up.
These were the kinds of sounds you would hear on a shortwave radio when you tune around.

I had the same problem all weekend and had to reboot and remove battery to get it to stop. No idea what happened.

Unfortunately there is not a way to tell exactly what happened unless this is something that continues to occur. It could be a network issue or device issue, but since just pulling the battery resolved the issue, it sounds like it may have been just a glitch in the phone. I have not seen this reported as a known issue. If this continues we can further investigate.

I have had my Charge for about 4 days and I had the same noise interrupt a call today. I tried to call the person back and got the same thing again. The other person called me back and again all I had was this loud beeping, staticky, morse code like noise. I had to restart the phone in order to use it.
I am also having the problem with the phone constantly dropping the network service. I have to reboot 2-3 times a day to get back on the network. This is in a 3g coverage area. Today when I had no network service, my wife had 3 bars on her Droid 2.

I have now had two phones replaced by Verizon (one new and one refurbished because I passed the less than adequate 14 day satisfaction period) and both have had the same issue. Checked the latest firmware and reports up-to date. This phone should not be considered if you are using it for business (which is what Verizon claims to be the carrier for). Waiting for my next replacement and only 3 weeks old. This is **bleep**!

Oh **bleep** it to hell, that is sooo not good news at all for us. I know that is has to be a radio issue. I have tried downloading a new version of the radio, and it's still doing the same **bleep** thing. If somewhere somehow verizon is reading this, FIX THIS ISSUE in your next release or you will have many many unhappy customers. This is unacceptable! I guess getting a smart phone wasn't so smart of me after all.

This JUST now happened to me and so I hopped onto the forum to find a fix. Seems that there is none, and that kind of sucks. 10 mins into my convo the noises started, sounding like the old dial-up internet connection noises. When I tried calling my friend back I heard the noises, and when she tried calling me back and I picked up, the noises where there too. I had to restart the phone. Hopefully this won't be a recurring problem. I already have to constantly restart my phone for the video issues...

Yeah there isn't a fix at all. I hope any of the verizon techs are reading this and are fully aware of what the problem is so that it can be fixed. That's exacty the same noise you described that I have, except it's ongoing within 1-2 days until I restart the phone. Can any of the verizon employees and or techs shed light on this matter that you are aware of the problem, what is causing it, and verizon is working on it?

Yes, I started this thread. I had this prob several times earlier on, happening randomly. But has been OK now for a few weeks. My main gripe now is dropped calls - happens more often than my old, simple phone. We think the new phone is simply too smart for its original, intended purpose! 😕

I know exactly what you mean. I used to have an LG Dare which very rarely dropped calls. Since I've had this phone, it randomly completely loses signal for a few seconds, which drops the call, then all the way up to 4 bars. Pretty annoying since my other nonsmart phone never completely just lost signal. Is there such a thing as....being too smart? We know the answer now. lol

Phillthedrill, thanks for sharing your concerns about the device losing signal and dropping calls. This issue and audio issues are currently under investigation by Samsung and our product team and a fix is expected in the next software release. No dates yet for the release, but once available it will be pushed to your phone.

Thanks for letting us know. Last night was the first time I had to restart the phone within an hour from each other. The loud squealing came on in the middle of the conversation on the phone, and then I restarted the phone. Within an hour later, squealing and clicking came back again, and I once again restarted the phone. This is the most irritating thing about this phone. Why Verizon or Samsung let this phone go out on sale without fixing this is beyond me. This is a $600 phone which acts like a piece of junk because of the radios, and baseband issues.

Dear phil,
I don't mean to rub it in, but some of us don't have this problem. I think that's important to point out when/if VZW or Samsung is willing to diagnose this problem. Is it the network or the phone? If the phone, what components? And so on.
I have never experienced this issue in northwestern NJ. I have other issues, but not this one. So it's likely not a design flaw. Could be a bad batch of phones, could be area of the VZW network, could be something else.
I hope whatever it is you get it fixed. If I DID have this problem, I would be looking for a new phone quickly, since I use my Charge as my only business phone and call integrity is therefore very important.

Good to see VZW is looking into this. My phone remains clear of this problem for a few weeks now. Something else I have noticed however, when I talk to a buddy who is also on Verizon with a Smart Phone: I can hear noise in the background. It often sounds like an audience - many voices. He says there is no radio or the phone is not on speaker. The noise fades in and out. The last time, after he hung up, I could hear what clearly sounded like a comedy show and an audience laughing at jokes. This went on for a minute or so.
So, I dunno - what was my phone tapping into?

OK...I'm going to try my **bleep** hardest to post this without being flagged for being inappropriate, disrespectful or unprofessional.
I had the same mic issues as already reported in another thread for the past 3 1/2 weeks and when I finally had enough and before I used this {word filter avoidance} for target practice, I searched online and found that NUMEROUS people were having the same issue. I called technical support to inform them of my discovery only to have the technician tell me "your the first person to complain of this issue"...well I understand if this guy was new and perhaps I truly WAS the first HE heard of it...BUT he was VERY knowledgable and VERY quickly sent me a replacement phone (being out of my ridiculous 14-day "worry free" guarantee) I have dealt with "new" CSR's and Techs and this guy was NOT new.
Now I have a ****ing refurbished phone less than a month after I purchased a BRAND NEW phone and I was just on a call and got this ****ing FAX MACHINE BULL**** noice >>>2 DAYS<<< AFTER GETTING THIS REFURB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOO VERIZON!!!! THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!!....WAKE THE **** UP

Try going to settings and then choose:
->Call Settings
Uncheck the box next to Voice Privacy. This worked for me.
Good luck.

I have the exact same problem. This noise interrupts my phone calls sometimes ten minutes into the conversation. Other times, it can take 45 minutes. The only way to get rid of the noise is to restart my phone. My phone software is updated and I tried unchecking the Voice Privacy feature. I continue to have this problem.

I have the same exact problem you are having as well, privacy being off doesn't do anything whatsoever. Do you have a custom rom installed or anything?

Thanks to the community members for your input. Kmd323, does the issue your having with the noise interruption happening often or randomly? Where are you using your phone at when the noise issue happens? If you have updated the software on your device, perhaps adjusting the volume down for a minute and back up can help filter the squealing noise the during the call. The noise issue can be a result of something interfering with your signal and restarting of the phone refreshes that signal. If this problem continues to be an issue, please send me a private message so I can look into some options to resolve the concerns.

I am so glad I registered here. I have fixed a few issues since getting this phone literally less than one month ago. Let me preface by saying that despite the issues I love this phone. I really really really do NOT want to go into a store and replace it because I have a bad history of getting refurbished phones that have a whole new set of issues - and while I have a back-up service, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of updating a new phone to the way I like it.
That being said, my phone does indeed emit a random loud static ...sounds like a radio frequency buzz or static every few seconds. It seems that the one thing in common is the rainy weather but it has been raining frequently so I can't be sure of that., In any event, only I hear it on my end. The other party has no idea. If I restart my phone or hang up and dial again ot sometimes disappears. It doesn't matter if the phone is on speaker or not. Once I get the buzz it will not go away for the entire phone call. It pops up if I get up, move the phone to my other ear, and lately most obviously, if I hit volume up or down that seems to start it up again.
I may suck it up and get a new phone but I am hoping that maybe it's a software glitch that can be fixed....
