Many problems with DINC2

I traded in my Blackberry for this Droid and now I'm questioning my decision. So many issues with this new phone and how ironic that in today's LA Times, there's a two page full color ad for how fast the new Droids are.
Right now, I don't care how fast the thing is. I just want proper reception, full bars signal, and fewer dropped calls. It is SO frustrating! It keeps switching among 3G, 1X and bars and then no bars, all while I'm standing with it in one place.
I use a lot of the other features, fine. But when it comes to using it AS A PHONE! I'd appreciate it to work properly. I even have a network extender at home and it still doesn't make a difference.
The phone is under the warranty period. Should I just return it and go back to the Blackberry?

I think by reading the board there are a few of us in the same boat. My signal is horrible at home currently marking -105dBm. I would really have liked to try a network extender but after your post about it not helping I would be skeptical. Plus I paid retail for this phone and don't care to dish out another $250 to fix a problem that I don't think I should have to cover the expense for. I've heard of some people getting a free network extender but I myself have never been offered one by VZW. It's a huge disappointment to purchase the phone at retail and have horrible reception. Sometimes 14 days isn't enough to get a feel if the phone is going to work out or not. Anyone else have any success with a network extender?

I know exactly how you feel! I had to pay $100. for this network extender just so I could have reception in my home. It worked okay for my previous phone, a Blackberry, except for some rooms that are farther way from the network extender's base. Isn't that ridiculous? But otherwise, it works okay for my husband's phone (a Blackberry).
Where did you hear about getting a network extender for free? I'm too late for that, obviously, but if it's true.... How rude!

It depends on which rep you speak with about the network extender. It's completely up to them whether or not to charge you for one. Most do charge, but some of them will give them out for free for those who do not get reception in their house.
I have to ask, though, and I'm not trying to be rude so please don't get mad... But if you all get terrible service in your homes and need a network extender... Why do you have Verizon?

You're not rude at all for asking! I have Verizon because we've had it for many years and previously, it's been fine, especially at the Verizon store nearby where the service has been very good.
But this new phone has caused new problems. The network extender was okay for the previous Blackberry. Thanks for asking.

I have to agree with you that the phone has brought the reception problems. My original DINC and BB Storm before that never had any reception problems.

Ditto. I had perfect reception in my home with my MOTO Droid and 2 previoulsy Blackberries. I have virtually NO reception in my home with this phone.

Hi shelleyb2,
I am sorry to learn of the signal/coverage issues you experience with the Droid Incredible 2. There are certain basic steps that may correct your signal issues. Please dial *228 on your wireless phone and select option 2, this will re-program your phone with a list of the closest towers in your area and may improve your service. Additionally, a soft reset may also improve the phone's performance.
If the above does not improve/resolve your signal concerns we may need to troubleshoot your Network Extender. Please note that we have a team specially trained to troubleshoot the Network Extender and while we do not have a direct number for this team we'll be happy to transfer you if you call us at 1-800-922-0204 between 6am and 11pm CST.

Antonio, can I get a portable network extender that I can carry with me everywhere? Either Verizon's reception is just poor in my area (a fairly large city) or the Incredible 2 has severe antenna problems. Either way, I experience static and breaking up on every call no matter where I am.

I'm convinced the signal/reception problem people are experiencing with the DINC2 is a result of poor antenna design. If it's a hardware/design issue, a software update won't help, not even doing a *228 a thousand times.
This issue has been reported on many, many other cell phone forums.

I have tried *228, adding new software, and reset. Nothing helps the reception problems. My house signal ranges from 90 dbm at best to 126 dbm and i live maybe 2 miles from the nearest tower.

Hello vickippac,
I do understand having signal opportunities can be frustrating. I would like to ask a few more questions that will help us determine the root cause. Are you just experiencing this in one specific area or in multiple environments as well? If you had a previous VZW device did that phone act in this manner as well? Are there any other VZW customers in this troubled area that are experiencing this or vice versa to compare? Are there any trends about the issue? Also, if you can make sure the back cover is securely on the back on the phone as the antenna is on the back of the cover. If you can advise me of all of the information above so I may determine what needs to be done next to assist you with your success. Thank you.

I just got this phone a week ago. I havent had any problems with its reception or dropped calls. Due to the mass production of these devices, it is possible for a defect. I vote you spend the time in the store and swap it out.
My last phone, the Eris, was struggling for signal in my home, but the Incredible 2 has done a fabulous job.
My only complaint is all of the numerous Apps VZW preinstalled that are pointless and run incessantly. cant wait for "other means of stopping these".
No dropped calls, no fuzz, no break ups. I wish you all the best in resolving your issues with your INC 22.
