I installed the 2.3 update on my Droid X and now the Market app is not installed. This problem has been going on since the 2.2 update. Why is it not fixed in 2.3? I assume that a factory reset will correct the problem, but have not tried it yet. I have lots of apps installed, including one app not in the marketplace and I need to make sure I can re-install them without paying again.
Are there any other options other than a Factory Reset?
Thanks.

First off do you mean 2.1 and the 2.2 update?
Secondly, there is no way to remove the Market App without first doing something which would void your warranty.
If you simply deleted your Market shortcut, hold down on your home screen for a few seconds, then select Shortcuts, then Applications, and find Market in the list.

Actually, the original poster is correct. I upgraded last evening via Settings --> About Phone --> System Updates. Once the update to Android 2.2 was complete I no longer could connect to the Market. The icon is still on my home screen, but when you choose it, it says *Application is not installed on your phone* and it does not appear on the application pages.
Someone's got to have a fix for this. Another update, perhaps? IDK but I"m not about to factory reset the device because I applied an authorized update from Verizon or Google or Motorola or whomever.

There is only 2 ways I know that seem to work.
1. Reinstall app from a market backup apk (EStrong File Explorer works well)
2. Hard Reset on device.
If you dont have a backup then a hard reset appears to be the only fix, use instructions from http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/m-p/29658... to resolve issue with minimum problems..

factory reset really doesnt effect the phone really other than wiping everything you did to it, all your contact pics, music, etc is backed up on the sd or online. so best is do the reset which harmless trust me i have done 3 at this point (still stuck with only green on the led?) and really the only hassel is downloading apps all over again and customizing your settings but its not as bad as you think. the better method i found is turning off the phone, holding the home and power key and using the volume keys to scroll and camera to select the factory reboot option .
anyone at all know about the led issue or are the folks saying they have multiple colors lying? (why does handcent let you change the colors but not the phone itself?)

Just found this on another forum... solved my problem.
If you have Astro file viewer then I have a solution for you;
Open astro, then click the up icon (Yellow Folder with green up arrow) till you get to the lowest level.
Then click the search icon and search for vending.apk, that's the real name for the Market app.
Click on the file name and you should be presented with the option to install it.
I had to delete my original shortcut as it no longer properly associated with the file, but it's easy enough
to make another one.
Also, if market crashes and "Forces Close" just re-open it and you should be good.
