Market app is gone!

Hello,

After a long wait and many different ways of trying to updte to Froyo, finally yesterday I eneded up in a Verizon store to update my Droid X. It worked out but after I got home, I realized I lost the Market app.

I checked other 2 discussions that provided information about restoring it, tried a few tricks but nothing worked.

I tried calling *228 and restoring but it did nothing to the market app. I did not have any backup app. & I do not want to do a hard reset as there's many information I have in my texts and stuff which I do not want to lose.

Is there any other way I can restore the Market app?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you use a backup app, the Market apk should have been backed up and you can simply install app again and this will fix this issue.

If you do not have a backup but have EStrong File Explorer you can go to explorer and press left menu button and select Manage/App Manager and then left menu Show Apps (To show system Apps), press and hold on Market file and select Backup..

Hello Wildman,

Thank you for taking your time in replying my quiry.

I followed your instruction. Butm unfortunately there's no 'market' app in the EStrong's list of apps.

Also, I just discovered, I also cannot silent my phone anymore. I can put it in vibration only mode but not in complete silence mode anymore.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thank you

Strange, mine shows it and if its not there it would had to been deleted that the phone just wont let you do:smileysurprised:, did you make sure to click the Show Apps option because this would be the only way to see the system files..

About the volume try AudioManager so you can see all volume settings on one interface.....

Also check the system settings and make sure you have it set to work Notification and Ringer Volume together,

Hello,

Thank you once again for taking your time in replying my post.

Well, nothing really worked. SO I just did a hard reset on my phone and I got the Market app back.

But the old ringtone volume system is still not back. But I think its Froyo.

previously it was 0 (no sound/vibrate), 0 (vibrate only), 1,2,3...

but now its 0,1, 2,3...

I checked the seetings, theres 4 options for vibration- Always, Never, Only in silent mode, Only when not in silent mode. this means, I cant get it like this was before. I cant have nothing and vibrate only at the same time in the same setting. which kind of sucks as those are the only 2 options most of the time I use, either full silent or vibrate only.

Well, Android should fix it.

Anyways, thank you for your time.

No problem, I was hoping I could save you the reset but sometime it becomes the only option and the number of vibration options can be a bit much.

after readin a couple of threads on here, i came to that conclusion. but it seems like i didn't or don't a have a back-up file of the market app. Since i only had the Driod X for a day, i got it yesterday afternoon. i wasn't aware of the steps i would have taken before updating, hence the screen name..haha

what if i reset to factory setting, do the back-up. then re-install the update...?

The silence feature is no longer available by design. At this time there is no option to remove a software upgrade. Once you have selected to upgrade any change in software from what is released from Verizon will void your warranty. You can search the android market for an app that will fit your need. Verizon Wireless does not support third party apps, download all third party apps at your own risk.

The only issue with this answer is that the post reports that the Market app is gone so this makes it a little hard to search something that is missing.:smileysurprised::smileyhappy:

Xnoob86 I would hard reset using the information from here and see if it helps restore the Market App... http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/m-p/29658... and test Widget Locker at http://www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker you can control alerts from lock screen.

Yes I had the same problem - updated and then no market app.  I ended up following verizon instructions and reset.  I am in the country so no WI-FI.  Reset requires setting up all your accounts again for EVEN REGULAR PHONE CALLS to work!!!

I cannot set up accounts without WIFI and could not make even regular calls without it.  Please advise those who will do a reset they should wait until they have access to WIFI before they do it!!!!

So now, I have not even basic cell phone ability, have lost all my personalization settings, lost all the set up I did using Market apps (approved and legal).

This has been a pretty bum deal all around.  Google and Verizon should work these things out in a way that allows us uninterrupted service!  You can keep your control over programs - I don't care about that but

  • WARN people without WIFI that they will be stuck without even basic phone service and that they should not do a reset without being near WIFI!!!

uhmmmm... every reset I've ever done I've NEVER been around WIFI, and it worked just fine - as long as you have a CDMA signal... so the only "warning" (and it shouldn't even be needed - if you aren't smart enough to realize it you don't need a phone) is that you have to have at least a cell signal to do anything data/voice related with the phone... like obtain updates, activate the phone after a reset, etc.

If you are without "basic phone service" then you are without cell signal.

Contact customer service and they may be able to walk you through a manual programming progess on the device to get you going again. I worked for a pager and cellphone sales company when I was younger and we did a manual programming process all the time.

Good Luck.
